Amarillo Bulls News Release

ASTON, PA - After an exhausting week of drills, scrimmages and all-star games, the Amarillo Bulls Main Camp came to a close on Sunday afternoon at the Ice Works Complex near Philadelphia.

Between 28 and 30 players will report to the Texas Panhandle on August 25 to begin training camp and securing a spot on the 2018-19 roster. A full training camp roster won't be made public until the end of August.

In the final all-star game, Blue defeated Yellow 7-3 with the 2nd period the difference. The game was much closer than the score would indicate. Bulls Head Coach Rocky Russo said the building this year's Bulls team wasn't easy.

"Main Camp is a tedious process from bringing the right players in, to doing the research, to understanding the personalities and character and then building a team," he said. "You are not picking the best 25 guys but those that fit certain roles on your team. We had very difficult decisions to make from selecting one centermen out of four very good ones, to a left defenseman from a group of three, and we had a decision to making regarding goaltending."

Russo said that some players earned their way on the team as of last night, while others had to have a big performance this morning to be chosen.

"I thought it was an excellent weekend of camp, very well run and I'm proud of my staff," he said. "I think the fans in Amarillo are going to be very excited and proud of the product we are going to be able to put on the ice this fall."

One of the big parts of Main Camp is to identify Free-Agents that get invited from their success at the previous Tryout Camps earlier this summer. Russo said the coaching staff is excited about the players that are on the protected list as well as those Free Agents that made the club.

'We have five free agents that made on training camp roster," Russo noted. "Those are the guys that went through the process and participated in the Pre-Draft Camps and earned an opportunity in Main Camp. They now earned a spot on our team so that just shows me how important these camps are. If they only would have come to Main Camp then there may not have been enough of a sample size."

The best way to catch Amarillo Bulls hockey this fall at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center is to purchase season tickets and have the same seat for all 28 home games. Fans can select from full as well as half season tickets and 10 game Flex Packs. Any fan who purchases or begins a payment plan for Season Tickets will be automatically entered in to the draw to win a trip for two to see a Las Vegas Golden Knights hockey game this fall. There are also special weekly draws that are held throughout the summer as part of the Summer of Hockey Giveaway. For further information on seat availability, please visit 301 South Polk in the Amarillo Building or call 806-242-1122.
