Alyssa Thomas Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Uncasville, CT - On Monday, Aug. 31, it was announced that forward, Alyssa Thomas was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played during the week of Aug. 24-30. This is the second time this season a Sun player has been named player of the week. DeWanna Bonner received the honor on Monday, Aug. 17.

Thomas garners the recognition after averaging 17.5 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, 5.5 assists per game and two steals per game in two contests last week. In the games against Las Vegas (8/28) and Washington (8/30), she tallied 35 total points, 20 rebounds, 11 assists and four steals. On Sunday, while facing the Mystics, Thomas was two assists away from her first career triple double. She has been two assists away from a triple-double, three times this season; once in the third game of the season against Los Angeles, another against Chicago on Aug. 14 and another on Aug. 30.

Over her career, Thomas has been named Player of the Week three times including this week's award. She earned it two times during the 2017 season.

Connecticut (7-9) prepares to take on the New York Liberty (2-13) for the last time this season tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 7pm on NESN+. The Sun currently have a 1-0 advantage over the Liberty this year and hold the #7 position in the standings. The top eight out of 12 teams advance to the WNBA Playoffs.
