All-Star Infielder McClendon Returning in 2014
The Gateway Grizzlies and manager Phil Warren have re-signed all-star infielder Chris McClendon for the 2014 season.
2014 marks McClendon's sixth season in the Frontier League and his fourth at Gateway. McClendon is a .303 career hitter with 23 home runs, 77 doubles and 158 RBI in 319 games. The Lufkin, TX native has stolen 61 career bases.
"Chris is one of the best overall players this league has seen," Warren remarked. "He's a great leader and a big piece of what we are trying to accomplish in 2014."
McClendon batted .327 last season with seven home runs and 49 RBI in 82 games. Known for his solid overall play, the former University of Kentucky star committed only eight errors at third base.
"This is a great organization and I have the best host family in the league," McClendon said. "I know all of the players are working hard this offseason to get back to playoff baseball. We look to play for a title every year at Gateway so this year will be no different. I'm looking for a ring."
The Grizzlies 2014 regular season opener is on May 16th when they take on the Traverse City Beach Bums at GCS Ballpark. Season and Group tickets are on sale now. For more information call 618.337.3000.
