Arkansas RimRockers News Release

In a high-scoring quarterfinal victory (135-123) against the Kentucky Colonels, Todd Day broke his own RimRocker scoring record, shooting 51 percent and racking up 45 points. Day’s contributions to the victory were not limited to points; he also had eight rebounds, one assist and two steals. Leading the defensive effort for the RimRockers was Shawnson Johnson with 13 rebounds, 24 points, three blocked shots and four steals. Other major contributors for the RimRockers were Kareem Reid (25 points, 14 assists); Brandon Dean (22 points) and Brian Jackson (10 rebounds).

The Colonels jumped out to an early 4 point lead, but the RimRockers were quick to respond, scoring five unanswered points. For the majority of the first half, neither team led by more than five points and by half-time, the RimRockers were holding on to a slim 63-61 lead. Fortunately, Arkansas came back with a purpose and a plan. They picked up the pace and scored 38 points in the third quarter alone. John Prise scored 40 points for the Colonels while Xavier Oliver captured 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to contain the momentum that the RimRockers set. Arkansas finished with 34 points in the fourth quarter and a 12 point lead over Kentucky to finish the game. The RimRockers progressed to the semi-finals on Friday, March 18 at Alltel Arena at 7 p.m.
