Alexis Morin Wins Marcel-Robert Trophy

April 24, 2024 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release


Boucherville, QC - The QMJHL is proud to announce that Alexis Morin of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens has won the Marcel-Robert Trophy as the scholastic player of the year.

Morin recently completed his CÉGEP diploma in science with an average of close to 95%. All this while having had to adapt to two CÉGEPs: Drummondville and Chicoutimi, as he moved from the Voltigeurs to the Saguenéens in January 2023. Known for his outstanding organization and excellent communication skills, he is now aiming to study law or medicine at McGill University.

The finalists were:

Alexis Bonefon, forward, Shawinigan Cataractes

A student in natural sciences at Cégep de Shawinigan, Bonefon maintained a 90% average this year and an impressive R rating of 34. In 2023, he received a national scholarship from the Alliance Sport-Études for his "academic excellence". Captain of the Cataractes, he now wishes to pursue his studies in kinesiology.

Mathieu Cataford, forward, Halifax Mooseheads

Cataford graduated from high school in the winter of 2023 with a staggering 97% average, despite studying in his second language, English, and having a busy fall, including the Vegas Golden Knights NHL camp. He then enrolled in commerce at Saint Mary's University, where he maintained A grades in his two courses. The Mooseheads forward was also a finalist for the Marcel-Robert Trophy in 2022-2023.
