Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth released its protected player list on Thursday, designating the 14 players who will not be eligible for the National Lacrosse League Expansion Draft.
Among the Mammoth's protected players are forwards Gavin Prout and Dan Carey, transition player Josh Sims, defensemen Tom Ethington and John Gallant, and goaltender Gee Nash.
The Expansion Draft, to be held on Tuesday, July 31 at noon Mountain time, will mark the Boston expansion club's first major step in building the team's inaugural season roster. The yet-to-be-named Boston team will select one unprotected player from each of the league's 13 other member clubs.
Each club can protect up to 14 players on its roster from the Expansion Draft. Clubs may either protect one goaltender and 13 runners (forwards/defensemen/transition players) or two goaltenders and 10 runners. No team may lose more than one of its players in the Expansion Draft.
The Boston club also holds the top overall selection in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft, to be held on Sept. 1 at Pepsi Center in Denver, home of the Colorado Mammoth.
