$7,000 Raised for Goals for Kids

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings are pleased to announce that over $7,000 was raised during the 2018-19 Western Hockey League season for the Westman Dreams for Kids "Goals for Kids" campaign.

The Wheat Kings, who closed out the regular season last Saturday night with a 5-4 overtime shootout victory over the visiting Regina Pats, scored 230 goals this past season.

The Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation was formed in 1991 to help make dreams come true for western Manitoba children suffering from life threatening diseases.

"Goals for Kids" was established the following year and has raised over $400,000 since that time.

The Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation is a non-profit, locally registered organization, dedicated to granting dreams to local children.

As in past years, local businesses served a corporate sponsors this year. Each time the Wheat Kings scored a goal or Brandon recorded a shutout, these sponsors would donate at least $25 to the Foundation.

Among the local businesses participating in this year's program were Advance Auto Body, IG Wealth Management, Brandon Maintenance Services, Wheat City Electric, Lockhart Plumbing and Heating, Brandon Source for Sports, Compass Credit Union, Dr. Brian Kiliwnik, Emco Waterworks, Forbidden Flavours, Color Burst Painting, Jason Krieser, J & G Group, Kuipers Bakery, Moninstar Metal, NAPA Traction, Total Farm Supply, Fort Garry Industries and Daydreams Esthetics Spa.

Linemates Stelio Mattheos and Luka Burzan led the Wheat Kings offensively this season with 44 and 40 goals respectively.

The Wheat Kings finished the regular season with a record of 31-29-4-4 and missed the playoffs by two points in the WHL's Eastern Conference. This marked the first time in six years and only the third time in 27 seasons that Brandon has failed to qualify for post season play.
