7 Islanders Alumni to Start Season as Member of NHL Rosters
The 2020-2021 National Hockey League regular season is finally set to get underway on Wednesday, January 13th. When the first puck drops, seven former Charlottetown Islanders will begin their season on an NHL roster or taxi squad.
With updates to league regulations to account for the COVID-19 pandemic, each roster has been expanded to account for additional players designated to be part of a team "taxi squad" should a member of the game day roster be injured or exposed to COVID-19. Taxi squad members will practice and travel with the main roster, being readily accessible to the team in the event of an emergency call-up.
The four former Islanders who find themselves on NHL rosters include:
Ryan Graves (Colorado Avalanche)
Ross Johnston (New York Islanders)
Daniel Sprong (Washington Capitals)
Sammy Blais (St. Louis Blues)
In addition to the players listed above, three former Islanders have been added to taxi squads to start the season:
Filip Chlapik (Ottawa Senators)
Pierre-Olivier Joseph (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Nicolas Meloche (San Jose Sharks)
Former Prince Edward Island Rocket goaltender Maxime Lagace will also join the Pittsburgh Penguins taxi squad.
We'd like to congratulate all Islanders alumni on their continued success at the next level and wish them all the best in the upcoming season! Stay safe!
