67's 'School' Frontenacs in 6-2 Win

Ottawa 67's News Release

OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's spoiled the Kingston Frontenac's annual School Day Game with a 6-2 win on Wednesday, extending Ottawa's streak to 22 games without a regulation loss.

The win gives the 67's a sweep in the School Day series between the clubs this year. The Barber Poles downed the Frontenacs 6-4 in front of a rowdy crowd of schoolkids at the Arena at TD Place back on November 7.

After killing off an early penalty in this one, the capitalized on the powerplay. Noel Hoefenmayer scored his fifth of the season with a shot from the point to open the scoring at 7:32 of the first period. Kody Clark doubled the Barber Poles' lead a few minutes later, finding a loose puck in the slot and shooting it past Frontenacs goaltender Brendan Bonello. Paul Larabie put Kingston on the board with 30 seconds left in the period with his first career OHL goal.

Even though the second period was a scoreless one, there was still plenty of action. The Barber Poles dominated the opposition for those 20 minutes with 17 shots on goal, but it was more a story of extra-curricular activities. It was also a scrappy period, with Clark's fight putting him an assist away from a Gordie Howe Hat Trick, something that became official with his third-period assist. The teams combined for 34 penalty minutes in the period in what continues to be a heated rivalry.

The third period saw Ottawa and Kingston combine for five goals during the final 20 minutes of the game. Sasha Chmelevski made it 3-1 only four minutes in on the power play with his 10th of the season. Rookie Matt Maggio, who just turned 16 this past Sunday, celebrated his birthday with his third goal of the season.

Jakob Brahaney tipped a puck on the power play only a few seconds later to turn this into a two-goal game, making things interesting. OHL leading goal scorer Tye Felhaber added to his impressive season-tally later on, scoring his 26th of the year on the power play. Defenseman Hudson Wilson would ice things with an empty net goal.

Game Notes

With a four-point game, Sasha Chmelevski extended his point streak to seven games. In those games, the 67's forward has put up a total of 19 points.

Kody Clark is the second 67's player to have a Gordie Howe hat-trick this season. Tye Felhaber had one against Erie on October 14th.

67's defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer was playing in his 200th OHL game against Kingston on Wednesday, and scored a goal in the first period which happened to be his 100th career point.

Ottawa outshot Kingston 39 to 27, and their power play was rolling, finishing the game with three goals on four chances.
