66ers Close in on Playoff Clincher

August 25, 2013 - California League (CalL1)
Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA - Saturday the Inland Empire 66ers (67-64, 30-31) closed in on their playoff clinching magic number with a 7-4 win over the High Desert Mavericks (59-71, 25-35). The victory reduces the team's magic number (the maximum number of wins necessary to clinch a playoff berth) to three, and keeps hope alive that the team can clinch at home on Monday.

The High-A Halos wasted no time putting a tally on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the first inning Cal. League MVP, Zach Borenstein, hit a soft line drive to left field for an RBI double.

In the third inning the 66ers broke away from the stalemate with an RBI single hit by Michael Snyder. Adding to the Inland Empire's comfortable lead, Andy Workman produced a two run RBI double. Borenstein reached first base off of a left field line drive for his second RBI of the contest in the fourth frame, making it his 34th multi-hit game this season.

The Mavericks chopped away at the 66ers lead by putting up three runs in the middle innings, but they didn't go unanswered. In the seventh inning Michael Snyder scored on a triple hit into the corner by Brian Hernandez. In the next at bat, Hernandez scored on a sacrifice fly increasing the 66ers lead to three runs.

Right hander, Alex Keudell, claimed his fifth season win with a quality seven inning performance from the mound tonight. The win extended Keudell's perfect recorded against the High Desert Mavericks since joining the Inland Empire's rotation in July.

Sunday the 66ers will continue their final homestand of the regular season against the High Desert Mavericks. Dan Reynolds is scheduled to send down his first offering from the mound at 5:05p on Family Funday Sunday. Be sure to catch the game on the 66ers flagship station AM 1050 KCAA.
