5-Run 8th Inning Dooms Claws

SALISBURY, MD - Delmarva scored 5 runs in the 8th inning to come from behind and top the BlueClaws 7-6 on Wednesday afternoon at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The Shorebirds (5-2/35-39) finish the series with back to back one-run wins and took two of three from the BlueClaws (2-5/28-46).

Trailing 6-2 entering the 8th, Danny Carela surrendered home runs to both Tucker Nathans and Creede Simpson to start the inning, and after two more hits, was removed.

Delvi Francisco (2-3) made a throwing error on a bunt, allowing a run to score, before a Roderick Bernadina groundout tied the game and a Steel Russell SAC fly gave the Birds the lead.

Mychal Givens (2-1), who got the final two outs of the 8th inning, threw a scoreless 9th for the win, stranding Lakewood's Justin Dalles at second.

Lakewood added two runs in the 8th to extend their lead to 6-2 before the Shorebirds five-run bottom of the 8th.

Jonathan Musser threw five scoreless innings for the BlueClaws but did not factor in the decision.

Lakewood scored a run in the first inning on an RBI single by Dalles and they led until the bottom of the 8th.

Pointer, a 28th round pick in 2010, had two hits and two RBIs for Lakewood. Shortstop Gustavo Gonzalez, added two hits and two RBIs as well.

Dalles, playing against his former team, went 3-4 with a walk and is now 16-45 on the season.

Lakewood opens a series Thursday at FirstEnergy Park against West Virginia. RHP Severino Gonzalez (--) makes his Lakewood debut against RHP Tyler Glasnow (4-1, 2.60).
