2020 NPF Draft Presented by BSN Sports Set for 2020

February 27, 2020 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The National Pro Fastpitch College Draft Presented by BSN Sports will be held this year in Rosemont, IL, home of the league's longest existing franchise, the Chicago Bandits.

The much anticipated event will take place inside the Draft Room at Kings Dining & Entertainment in the heart of Rosemont's Entertainment District on Monday, March 30th at 7:00 pm CT. Four of the league's five affiliate teams will draft eligible college seniors during five total rounds.

The Draft, which has taken place since 2004, is a featured event for the league each year.

"As we approach this special season that will include Olympic competition for three of our five teams, we realize we have a lot to look forward to as a league in 2020," commented NPF Commissioner, Cheri Kempf. "This is the perfect beginning to celebrate the 22 player names we will hear on Draft night, and to welcome those players into a unique and exciting season of professional softball once their college careers wrap up. It is always special to experience Draft night with a brand new team at the top of the rounds and of course, it's always great to be in Rosemont."

In total, 22 players will be selected in the 2020 Draft. The league's newest team, California Commotion will make the number one selection and own the lead spot in all five rounds. As a new team with the onus of assembling their inaugural roster, league policies provide for the Commotion to also have the final pick in Draft rounds four and five.

The Canadian Wild will be the only league team not participating in the Draft due to their desire to use only members of their Olympic team during 2020 league play. The remaining four teams will draft in the order of their 2019 regular season finish with the exception of trades.

The 2020 NPF College Draft presented by BSN Sports will be the 17th Draft for the league overall. In terms of number one picks, pitchers dominate the category, being the first name called a total of eleven times. Infielders and outfielders were selected number one, twice each, and only one time in the history of the Draft, was a catcher selected first.

Draft Day 2020 begins with the Draft luncheon, which is attended by league and team personnel, sponsors and suppliers, and other friends of the league as invited guests. It is held this year at a Rosemont staple, Gene and Georgetti.

As an added feature to this year's Draft, the league will be hosting two high level skills camps on Sunday March 29th, that will feature 2019's number one draft pick by the Chicago Bandits, Kelly Barnhill, along with Bandits' 2019 All NPF second baseman and member of the NPF's All Decade Team, Abby Ramirez. Other special guests will join Barnhill and Ramirez in the pitching and offensive camps. Young players can register for those camp opportunities by going to www.chicagobanditsevents.com .

The 2020 NPF College Draft Presented by BSN will stream live on Facebook for the second year in a row, and will be co-hosted by Chuckie Kempf and Barb Jordan. Fans can also follow along in real time on the league's social media platforms (@profastpitch) of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
