2019-20 USHL Players of the Week Named for Week 4

October 22, 2019 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release

CHICAGO, ILL. - The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Tuesday the Forward, Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week for Week 4 of the 2019-20 season. This is the second such honor for Waterloo Black Hawks forward Ryder Rolston and first weekly honor for both Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Ben Meehan and Dubuque Fighting Saints goaltender Aidan McCarthy. Rolston and Meehan each recorded hat tricks this week while McCarthy registered an 18-save shutout in his lone appearance of the weekend. The USHL is America's only Tier I junior hockey league and continues to lead the world in the advancement of Division I college hockey athletes.

Rolston was named USHL Forward of the Week after picking up a hat trick in a four-point night (3-1-4) in a 9-1 win Saturday night. The University of Notre Dame commit now has five points (3-2-5) in six games this season and has 61 points (38-23-61) in 74 career USHL regular season games. The former USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) forward was previously named USHL Forward of the Week during the 2017-18 season. This was Rolston's ninth multi-goal game of his USHL career and second hat trick (March 25, 2018). The four-point game on Saturday, as well as his previous hat trick, are tied for the second-most points in a single game for the Birmingham, Mich. native in his USHL career.

Defenseman: Ben Meehan (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders)

Meehan and the RoughRiders played three games over the weekend, but it took just one period for him to lock up the USHL Defenseman of the Week as he registered four points (3-1-4) in a 13:04 span as he led his team in an incredible comeback attempt on Saturday night. The University of Massachusetts-Lowell commit picked up all four of his points in a wild third period against the Omaha Lancers as the RoughRiders erased both a 4-1 and 5-2 deficit in the final frame thanks to Meehan's offensive outburst. The defenseman's four-point night doubled his point total to eight points (6-2-8) in eight games this season, which is tied for third in the USHL among blueliners while his six goals leads all defensemen this season.

Goalie: Aidan McCarthy (Dubuque Fighting Saints)

McCarthy stopped all 18 shots he faced Saturday night, leading his Fighting Saints to a perfect 6-0-0-0 start on the season, in a 1-0 road win against the Sioux City Musketeers. The Novi, Mich. native's shutout was his second victory of the season so far as he is currently tied for third in goals against average (1.50) and fourth in save percentage (93.8 percent). Dubuque's last shutout was recorded by Matthew Thiessen last season on April 6, 2019, which also won him USHL Goalie of the Week.
