2017 Coastal Bend Heart
Join Our Team
Cardiovascular disease is the #1 Killer of Americans, but together we can take steps to fight it, prevent it... end it. Join us on Saturday, October 7th for the 21st Annual Heart Walk, Coastal Bend's family-friendly 5K that promotes healthy lifestyles and raises funds towards cardiovascular research and educational programs for the American Heart Association.
Each year, several thousand volunteers and participants gather to raise awareness and funds that fight heart disease and stroke, America's No. 1 and No. 5 killers respectively. The non-competitive 5K walk is open to all age groups and also includes Hands-Only CPR demonstrations, kid zone area, team photos, and much more. All activities are free and open to the public; participants who choose to fund raise are eligible for prizes. Money raised from the Heart Walk funds cardiovascular research and education. The American Heart Association currently funds more than $31 million in research in Texas.
Heart disease and stroke are responsible for approximately 1,130 deaths a year in the Coastal Bend area, making it the leading cause of death and an issue that hits home for many. But the good news is that these diseases are largely preventable through a healthy diet and physical activity. Research has shown walking to be the single most effective form of exercise to achieve ideal cardiovascular health and just 30 minutes a day can improve critical numbers like weight, blood pressure and cholesterol, reducing your risk for heart disease and stroke.
Join our team this Saturday @ 7:45am by right field entrance.
