2012 Latino del Año: Voting is now open for the Semifinal round

EW YORK - And there were four.

Following a week of voting for the quarterfinals, the four semifinalists for the 2012 Latino del Año - the competition that elects the top Latino player in MLS voted by the fans- were unveiled on Monday.

Three of the final four contestants hail from Honduras, as the Houston Dynamo's Boniek García, Sporting Kansas City's Roger Espinoza and San Jose Earthquakes' Víctor Bernárdez swept away their opponents in the quarterfinals. LA Galaxy midfielder Marcelo Sarvas - who hails from Brazil - rounds out the field.

Sarvas and García are the only two semifinalists who will compete for the 2012 MLS Cup with their corresponding clubs, next Saturday, December 1st at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Espinoza is the only contender who has reached the semifinals each of the past two seasons.

Ballots close on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 11:59 pm ET with the two finalists unveiled on Thursday, Nov. 29.

Here are the four qualifiers and how they match up in the semifinals, which is now open for voting.

F1: (S1) Víctor Bernárdez (San Jose Earthquakes) vs. (S2): Boniek García (Houston Dynamo)

F2: (S3) Roger Espinoza (Sporting Kansas City) vs. (S4): Marcelo Sarvas (LA Galaxy)

2- Julio César (SKC) - 39.8%

S2: Chávez vs. Boniek

1- Boniek García (HOU) - 79.09%

2- Marvin Chávez (FCD) - 20.91%

S3: Bengston vs. Espinoza

1 - Roger Espinoza (SKC) - 67.25%

2 - Jerry Bengston (NE) - 32.75%

S4: Sarvas vs. Blas

1 - Marcelo Sarvas (LA) - 79.83%

2 - Blas Pérez (FCD) - 20.17%


November 29 - Announcement of the two finalists; voting opens.
