15-1 Win over Emeralds Clinches Second Half Title

The Volcanoes pounded the Eugene Emeralds 15-1 on Sunday in front of 2,366 at Volcanoes Stadium to clinch the second half championship in the Northwest League South Division.
It was an overall quality outing for the Volcanoes, scoring 15 runs on 15 hits while giving up just two hits to their South Division foes.
The home team busted it wide open early, posting eight runs in the second inning. The frame was highlighted by three homeruns coming from Ryan Tuntland, Tyler Horan and Blake Miller in order. Horan and Miller hit back-to-back shots to knock out Tyler Hale (3-3) after just an inning and a third of work. He would give up nine runs on seven hits while striking out one and walking two. He would also hit Geno Escalante twice in the inning as he saw 11 batters in the second before being pulled by Emeralds Manager Jim Gabella.
Jeremy Sy added to the lead in the third with an RBI triple to bring in Randy Ortiz. Sy went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, 3 RBI and a run scored.
The final nail in the coffin came in the fourth with Jeffrey Enloe on the hill for the Ems. With the bases loaded and a run already crossing the plate in the inning, Hollick blasted a grand slam deep to right for his third homerun of the year. Two of those three shots have come in the past week against the Emeralds.
On top of the offensive outpouring, the Volcanoes pitching staff once again combined for a gem of an outing, giving up just two hits and at one point retiring 16 consecutive Eugene batters.
Drew Leenhouts (9-2) now moves into a tie for second place in franchise history for wins, one behind Adam Cowart for the all-time lead.
Salem-Keizer is now 11-0 against Eugene in 2013 and has set a franchise record for most wins against an opponent in the regular season.
The Volcanoes and Emeralds will conclude the 2013 regular season Monday at Volcanoes Stadium. Game time is set for 2:05 p.m.
