NexxNow China Partnership, CBA TV in China

Post by Patroons1 » Sat Jan 12, 2008 7:14 pm

Interesting CBA press release yesterday which teams NexxNow China Inc with the CBA to deliver digitial media sports content to mainland china, exposing a vast population to the CBA. If successful (maybe a long shot but worth a try in my opinion), the revenues from American and/or global companies wishing to advertise to China via this media could be measurable and provide a new source of revenue and exposure to the brand. Longer term, it could assist with start up or operational shortfalls as well as increasing franchise values. On one hand, this is a bold move which shows the CBA office is thinking strategic and trying things on a few different levels and appears to be in it for the longer hall...and may have deeper pockets than we think or would appear on the daily front. On the other, it appears there are more than a few immediate issues that could be resolved (help credibility immediately) with solid league leadership and direction (Great Falls challenges, etc) that is not happening. Let's hope it works, it can only make the league stronger. Couple that with, despite the nay sayer's predictions, more than half way through the season, no one has folded yet! Maybe the CBA glass is half full! I hope so.

Hopes

I do hope it helps as a new revenue stream and source of stability for the teams. My great hope is that China has figured out the best way to develop their players for American basketball and be noticed by the NBA is to have them play basketball in America. As much as it angered them, it did work for Sun Yue and who knows what a season or two on a CBA team could have done for the draft prospects of a guy like Mo Ke and the like?

The initials

are the same. But if you read the release, it only mentions the CONTINENTAL Basketball and not Chinese, although the new partner is Chinese.

Sounds like Ricardo Richardson at work again. The CBA needs to focus on getting its collective act together here in the states.

Hmmmmm. No one has folded yet?!? The Explorers couldn't afford to play their most recent home game. Great Falls can afford to travel because the money is already there in the CBA's travel pool. However, the Explorers can't pay anybody--not the coaches, the players, the venue, or the vendors. That team is toast.

Reason: Wanted to address the issue of NO teams folding yet

Wow, Ken the Steelhead Fan!...I guess you and I don't agree on too much. Can't agree more that Great Falls is the #1 issue for the CBA teams but someone made it to Albany on Friday night called the Great Fall Explorers and the game was played...so please don't put the last nail in yet! On your second point, agree that #1 objective is to "fix the act in the states" but no business plan can have only 1 dimension or only 1 priority and I like the idea of trying different things line the NexxNow thing or the merchandising attempt. I wish the IBL well and hope you enjoy the upcoming season despite the fact that they'll have their share ot "toast" too (unfortunately) ! :)
