New Wisconsin(Janesville) NAHL Team

Post by NPlainshockey » Wed May 13, 2009 2:18 pm

This is awesome. Wisconsin should have had an NAHL team long ago. I would hope that they play in the Central Division- with Bismarck, Alexandria, Owatonna, Albert Lea and North Iowa. Although It hink NI might be a candidate to move to either the South or North.
With the number of excellent hockey players still not getting the opportunity to play in the NAHL (playing in the CSHL, MJHL and so on) Janesville will be able to field a very good team first year out.
Coaching rumor? Who will be the Head Coach-- Some say Dane Litke(former Bismarck Bobcats coach). I understand he is marvelous, I know he did a great job for the Bobcats in his past years.
Well this is a good luck and Congrats for landing the New Team.
just another Team to help increase the number of upper midwest- Wisc/MN/ND players playing junior hockey.
Anyone have any other info regarding this team? The Coaching? the ownership as stated looks fabulous.
NAHL should start listing them on the website, don't you think?

Litke Named Janesville's Head Coach

Wisconsin Hockey Partners, LLC, the ownership group of the Janesville, Wis., team, has announced that Dane Litke has been named the club’s first head coach and general manager of hockey operations.

The team also announced that Sean Storie will serve as Janesville’s assistant coach and director of player development

Litke has past NAHL coaching experience, serving most recently as assistant coach for three years and then head coach for one-and-a-half years for the Bismarck Bobcats.

For the soon-to-be-named Janesville hockey team, Litke will handle many of the same duties he provided for the Bobcats, including supervision and development of players, planning and coordination of tryout and youth camps, and community relations work such as public speaking, personal appearances and media interviews.

“Dane Litke was a very talented player and has great coaching experience in the junior hockey ranks,” said Bill McCoshen, managing partner of the team’s ownership group. “Additionally, he is very well connected in the hockey community and his knowledge of potential junior players as well as the college hockey system will pay off tremendously.”

A two-time WCHA All-Academic Team honoree, Litke was also a two-year captain and star defenseman at the University of North Dakota, including the 1997 NCAA national championship team. After UND, Litke played four seasons of professional hockey in the CHL and the ECHL.

Storie has coached the best high school players in Wisconsin for the past three years as head coach and assistant coach with Team Wisconsin. He helped guide Team Wisconsin’s U16 team to the USA Hockey National Championships in his first year as head coach, and also was instrumental in making the Team Wisconsin’s U18 team one of the top teams in the Upper Midwest Elite Hockey League in Minnesota.

Storie has coached 13 Wisconsin players the past three years that have gone on to Division I schools to further their hockey careers.

"Dane and Sean have the experience and background necessary to help our new franchise succeed. The fans in Janesville will enjoy the style of hockey our team will play,” said McCoshen.

Due to the closing of the GM plant, Janesville has one of the highest unemployment rates in the midwest. Whats the chances the public comes out to support them?

Jets win first exibition game

Post by OWEN » Sun Sep 06, 2009 2:37 pm

The newly formed Janesville Jets won their home opener exibtion game over the perenial CSHL powerhouse Dubuque Thunderbirds. The Jets showed above average skating skills all night and showed exceptional hand skills and great puck movement. They resisted all evening with the fight-provoking Thunderbirds, but two small fights broke out. Overall the Jets had a pretty good debut game and the 600 or so fans did not leave disappointed. The final score was 5-3. There is alot of promise here and excitement for this team will continue to build throughout the community and surrounding area. Junior hockey will prove to be a great fit for southern Wisconsin..... :)

If their first exibtion game is a sign, I would say te Jets will receive plenty of support in this community. There is still 60,000 or so employed people in Janesville and will continue to be supported...GO JETS !!!
