Watch Out For The Chill Next Year

Post by CanadianBaller » Mon Jul 21, 2008 10:56 pm

They will have their core back with JR Patrick, Rashaun Broadus, Lee Scruggs. and hopefully they can actually get Stephen Sir and Jermaine Bucknor to play all season. Im looking forward to seeing the Chill make Homeboyplaya eat his words and rise to the top.

Dullio said in an interview on a local Edmonton radio sports show that the Chill would be back in Edmonton next season and he expects them to continue doing very well attendance and sponsorship wise. Barns was just a guy that got lucky to be the owner and he did not actually own the team, the silent investors on the team are the real honest people on the team who made it run.

Voice of IBL

The IBL received written complaints about financial issues, debts & illegal investing and on the 6th such complaint/verification, the IBL gave the owner Troy an opportunity to cure, fix, etc. and as of very recent that number shot up to now 19 in part due to the news release, but with no such resolutions from Troy. A few complaints were way out of bounds especially the last 2 of 3 that rolled in. There is no incentive to remove an owner from the IBL-none whatsoever- other than to protect a city from potential 'issues' and that is what the IBL had to do. In any previous year, the most complaints the IBL received about a team was perhaps 3 complaints and that team was removed from the IBL. To clarify to one of the earlier posts- no, the real owner was Troy Barnes not the silent investors... the silent investors are what got Troy approved- they helped get him over the top b/c they were local, good people with solid businesses and the IBL viewed the totality of the group as good enough to let in the IBL- but unfortunately, the partners could not control spending and ultimately decisions. Needless to say, in a new ownership group application, one person must identify themself as the decision maker/controlling interest person and that person has to qualify on his/her own merits and the silent partners will only be considered bonus.

The Edmonton Chill team performed well on the court and was a really enjoyable product for many people- they played 6 different teams at home for 12 home games to 8 away games- Chill staff, operations, players, coaches- basically a Chill game day- were excellent so there is a lot of interest in returning a team in Edmonton, but as far as a 'Chill' team returning in name, I do not know about that... quite a few good people are working to put together a solid ownership group- an upgraded situation for 2009 but there is nothing official yet and it is doubtful that they would use the name Chill.
