PPFL and potential TV rating

Post by 4th&long » Wed Jan 11, 2017 5:25 pm

The All america Bowl of top HS players scored strong ratings

PPFL taking that to next level has TV potential

>The U.S. Army All-American Bowl scored 1.5 million viewers on NBC Saturday afternoon, up 14% from last year (1.4M), up 19% from 2015 (1.3M), and the largest audience for the event in three years (1.7M). The 1.0 final rating increased a tick from both last year and 2015.<

This proposed league will NOT feature top prep players.

This is/was a one time game, not a season. We all saw how the XFL ratings diminished week by week. The UFL was averaging 38K viewers at the end.

More importantly, the season will run in July and August when TV ratings are lowest and when families are ya know, on vacation as opposed to right before the NFL playoffs on a Saturday afternoon.

That's your opinion, and I don't agree with it.

but we are talking a fraction of a fraction to gt a tv contract. MLS after all its hype and money is avg roughly 250k on espn.

A properly marketed league will be able to get similar #s, FB blows soccer out of the water in USA popularity wise

Why expect a TV contract which gives them money? It's likely to be brokered with them responsible for production and advertising.

Possibly but with Hockey and NBA playoff runs over by July they (sports nets) may be looking to fill a 2 month TV window - part will be preseason NFL but 5 weeks will likely be before that. And Preseason is mostly local TV (Teams) and NFLN

The biggest thing thats stopping nets is not wanting to PO the NFL - ie the defacto monopoly

NFLN's future is in doubt, especially if Thursday night games are ended. The major reason why Cablevision, BrightHouse and Time Warner (now Spectrum) ended their near decade decision not carry the channel in 2012 was for live NFL games. Not anything else. No live NFL games means that they won't come close to getting the $1.31/subscriber they get now.

And CBSSN, they dont subscribe to Neilsen, so they have no ratings data.

Off the top of my head, July/August 2018 looks like this:
ESPN: MLB, Wimbledon, MLB, MLS, WNBA, US Open Tennis Series, IndyCar and LLWS
FS1/2: Russia World Cup, MLB, MLS, USGA golf, NASCAR (two series), UFC
NBCSN: An option if Comcast wants them.

Other than that, Netflix/Amazon/YouTube are their best hopes.
