Harrisburg Stampede 2013 AIF Champions

Post by black dog » Sun Jun 09, 2013 7:41 pm

The Stampede posted an impressive 57-42 win over Cape Fear in the AIF championship game.It was impressive considering it was on the road and against a team that seemed to have their number over the past two years.I know the AIF was basically a two horse race, but it was nice to see a legit championship game after last years debacle.

The 2013 AIF season was improved in general, admittedly not much of a standard with the league's entire western division plus Maryland & Macon keeling over during 2012 play. There were no turf condition debacles and no official league games were canceled once the season actually started. (Hampton at Washington was not an official league game.) Harrisburg, Cape Fear and (in late season) York all proved to be quality teams.

I agree that York turned into a pretty good team by the end of the season. It was good to see the Hbg/York rivalry develop this year. Having a good number of York fans in Hbg for the playoff game created a good atmosphere in what turned out to be a good game. Having such a close rival may help keep Hbg in the AIF(if they had any thoughts of ever leaving). Morris needs to cut the Virginia/West Virginia/wherever they are next year Badgers loose. They have brought nothing to the league. If he can build off Cape Fear, Hbg and York and put a quality team back in Baltimore next year it could be a decent league in 2014.

The AIF had Harrisburg, York and Cape Fear made it through the season. The problem with the AIF is and always has been one thing. John Morris. The travel teams, "associate" member teams and the blatant lies trying to make this league into something more than what it is. Lets not all forget the cancun All star game and two tier developmental league from a year ago, and all the teams that came and went or never were. Semi pro v. pro teams, lopsided victories, 100-0, it cheapen your overall product. I give all the credit to the players and coaches who sacrificed their time and bodies to continue playing the game they love. But when you sign on to this, you think your playing "pro" football and should be treated as such. Nothing is pro about this league. York / Harrisburg rivalry is good. If, and I mean if Scranton and Baltimore actually make it to the field if gives you 5 teams. One of the biggest problems with this league is the schedule. Playing one team four times out of 10 games. Really. If they added a ny/nj team to mix, 6 might work for an 8 game schedule and for travel. Cape Fear is the only geographically undesirable team for travel. But the biggest problem is if you know john morris, who the hell is stupid enough to get involved with this guy.

It's unclear. There is an expansion indoor football team announced called the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Soldiers but its owner wants to align with the CIFL, not the AIF.

He would be smart to stay as far away from John Morris as possible, he would only be setting himself up for failure

If you haven't seen it there are some interesting conversations on their FB page. Basically they have no home and are looking around. Not off to a good start.

Oh, such drama. FWIW to this forum, the venue in question not only doesn't have a deal with the Soldiers, it doesn't have a deal with any football team.
