PIFL rules

Post by raidersradio » Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:46 pm

The PIFL has posted their rulebook: http://www.proifl.com/forms/2012_PIFL_RuleBook.pdf

Most of the rules are familiar from other incarnations of the indoor leagues PIFL teams have played in (linebacker restrictions, one offensive man in motion, etc.) but a couple of twists stand out to me.
6. Goal Posts: The crossbars are centered on each end line. The width must
be 10 feet measured from the inside to inside of the uprights. The uprights
extend 20 feet vertically from the crossbar. The crossbar must be 15 feet
from the turf to the bottom of the crossbar.
The diameter of each post
shall not be less than 3 inches or greater than 4 inches. Goal posts shall be
painted in bright yellow. Slack nets may be used behind the goalposts. The
nets shall be attached in such a way that they cover the dimensions of the
goal posts. The nets shall not extend past the uprights in any way. It is
recommended that slack nets be installed in order to retain footballs
They raised the crossbar five feet, which makes long field goals and unos much more difficult. I don't remember seeing many unos at all that cleared the crossbar by more than five feet.

This is in the free kick section:
E. Ball touching the wall: If the ball touches the wall before going 10 yards
and has not been touched by a member of the receiving team, the receiving
team may elect to take the ball at the point it touched the wall. The ball
remains live and can be played off the wall. The receiving team may take
the ball at the Spot the ball first touched the wall or result of the paly. (Not
a foul; no flag, just a bean bag at the spot of touching)
Takes away one type of onside kick.

One more:
E. Incomplete forward pass: A forward pass shall be incomplete as follows:
1.) When a ball strikes the ground.
2.) When the ball goes out of bounds, even if touched by a
player in the field of play.
3.) When the passer has begun his forward passing motion
with the ball and the ball leaves his hand and strikes the
ground.
4.) When the ball hits the wall prior to posession
Is it me, or did the SIFL/AIFA allow passes to be caught off the wall?

Any other rules stand out to anyone?

I applaud the league for releasing the rules in this format, this is a step in the right direction, without even having played a down yet, the PIFL has done something that the other arena league has yet to do in 25 years, release their rulebook.

Absolutely not true. A number of leagues have posted their rule book over the years.

Please read what I posted word for word, I said "arena" league and not "indoor", this is the first time that an ARENA league has posted its rule set, the AFL has always stored its rule book in the basement at Langley or MI-6.

The PIFL cannot use the word "Arena" in their name, the word is protected by trademark via Gridiron, Inc. LLC, the parent company that owns the rights to the AFL and af2 names, if any other league attempts to use the "arena" name, they get sued, it is called trademark infringement.
