ECHL Expansion 2012-13

Post by robster2001 » Wed Oct 12, 2011 2:50 am

Looks like the ECHL is getting busy.

The San Francisco Bulls already have a website and are selling 2012-13 season tickets for their first season at the Cow Palace.

And a new team for Orlando (first for downtown O-town since the Solar Bears left in 2001, although a couple of attempts were made in Kissimmee) should be approved shortly if the Orlando Sentinel has it right.

Good news. Two new teams in large markets in geographical areas where the league desperately could use a few more clubs

And the lease has been approved:

Now all the ECHL needs to do is award that expansion membership...but I see no reason why they won't.

At $22,000 per game, if you sell your tickets at $15 each, the first 1,500 tickets would go to the arena before you got the money to pay players or anything else. That seems a recipe for disaster.

Any chance the ECHL would try and lure the Green Bay Gamblers to join? And become affiliated with the Nashville Predators and Milwaukee Admirals.

The Gamblers are a junior hockey team...I don't know if this will ever happen, but I would sure enjoy seeing the Milwaukee players start out in Green Bay!

Gee, all San Diego needs is arena ownership that is pro-hockey, or perhaps a new building--probably both. I am 57, so I don't expect to see that in my lifetime.

Unlikely -- if anything, motion has been in the other direction, with a number of teams (mostly CHL teams in Texas, but a couple of California ECHL teams, too) dropping down to the NAHL to save money.

Post by south florida basketball » Wed Dec 28, 2011 5:42 pm

Rumour is of a group investors are ready to apply for a ECHL expansion franchise for Memphis playing out of the Fed EX Form. The River kings play across the border and downgraded from the Central Hockey to the SPHL.
