ABA ANNOUNCES PRE-SEASON POWER RANKINGS

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (http://www.abalive.com) today announced its Pre-Season Power Rankings. ”Definitely not easy to do,” stated Joe Newman, ABA CEO. “We have some strong teams returning as well as some very good new teams and there are only 24 positions in the Power Rankings. With the season opening next week, there should be a lot of movement.”

“We do have some good opening games next weekend,” added Newman, “including the Milwaukee Blast vs the Chicago Steam and the San Diego SOL vs the Arizona Scorpions. It should be interesting.” For more information, visit http://www.abalive.com.
”Definitely not easy to do,” stated Joe Newman, ABA CEO. Well, seeing as most teams haven't even completed TRYOUTS yet, much less determined their final roster - and even those teams that have their final rosters have mostly players who are known pretty much just around their family dinner table - this annual weekly farce becomes more laughable every year.

"...next week, there should be a lot of movement.”

Yup. I predict that 3 of these teams won't be around by week 2.

"...there should be a lot of movement.”

You sure about that, Joe? Most of your teams don't travel, after all...

Warriors crack ABA’s Top 20 without firing a single shot
Posted by Editor on Oct 31st, 2011 // No Comment
The upstart S.C. Warriors haven’t scored the first basket in franchise history yet, but they’re already getting some serious respect.
The American Basketball Association announced its Preseason Power Rankings on Monday and the Myrtle Beach-based Warriors are ranked 20th in the 80-team league.
Not bad for a team that won’t take the floor for the first time until its Nov. 18 season opener against the Carolina Jaguars at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
So how does a team that’s never played a game crack the Top 20 list? According to ABA CEO Joe Newman, who helped rank the teams based on past performance and roster strength, it’s a good question.
”Definitely not easy to do,” he said. “We have some strong teams returning as well as some very good new teams and there are only 24 positions in the Power Rankings. With the season opening next week, there should be a lot of movement.”
The Warriors have assembled an impressive roster on paper, but the games are played on the hardwood. With four former Coastal Carolina University players and two former College of Charleston teammates could help close the gap on the togetherness curve.
Former Chants Jack Leasure, Colin Stevens and Mario Edwards and Jo Harris and ex-Cougars Tony White Jr. and Dustin Scott provide a solid core of local players.
Teammates Mike Volger (Troy), Curtis Thomas (Indiana Tech) and Fred Peete (New Mexico State) and swingmen Alex Chapman (Vanguard), Marquise Gainous (Texas Christian) and John Fowler (Arkansas-Little Rock) provide a mix of talent.
The roster has not been finalized so more additions could take place before the seasonn opener. Meanwhile, the Warriors will try to mesh their talent into a team as training camp opens in the coming days and the Jaguars come calling in just over two weeks.

So, we have the promise of an answer to a direct inquiry vis-a-vis a question directed toward Joe Newman:

So how does a team that’s never played a game crack the Top 20 list? According to ABA CEO Joe Newman, who helped rank the teams based on past performance and roster strength, it’s a good question.

Great question! We've been asking it here for years. And the reply?
”Definitely not easy to do,” he said. “We have some strong teams returning as well as some very good new teams and there are only 24 positions in the Power Rankings. With the season opening next week, there should be a lot of movement.”

It is word for word pulled STRAIGHT FROM THE PRESS RELEASE.

Jeez, when this team folds, and this newspaper - if it evens notices - says anything about the team's operations, they can go back to this schlock to see they were just as pathetic in doing their jobs....

And if they were actually interested in how the team was ranked in the top 20, this sentence later in the same article should have set off a feww bells or alarms:

The roster has not been finalized so more additions could take place before the seasonn [sic] opener.

They didn't think to question how a team without an actual roster or any history can be rated at all, much less in the top 20?

I weep for the future of the American media.

This league has continued to top itself with unintended comedy. Its just a laugh a minute. Joe once emailed a poster on here the 'formula' for the power rankings and it also included a part where Joe says he uses his "gut instinct" or something like that.

I wonder what the highest power ranking for a team that never played a game was?

Due to numerous threats of legal action from certain people.......all of the above is my opinion only and it should be noted that I have never invested in the ABA. It is simply one mans opinion.

HA HA HA.........that photo of you with a Utica Wreckers jersey and Tom Chichest06er was a classic. I'll give him full marks for being a good sport too. Joe would have simply pretended you didn't exist.

Wasn't there some kid who thought the Wreckers were a great expansion team?

“Our scouts tell us that Jacksonville and Los Angeles are very strong so we’ll keep them there until they begin their schedules. " - your scouts? Who the &%$# are they? You have teams without paid staff, now you are telling the world you have scouts? Ask them to post comprehensive reports on the top players; hell, have them NAME ANY of their players.

Keep piling the "stuff" up, Joe - those of us who know are aware of the nonsensical posts you make, and the rest of the world doesn't even know you exist.
