Aba execs launch new 50+ sports fan social network
http://abalive.com/aba-featured-news/ab ... l-network/
Indianapolis, IN. Five American Basketball Association executives (ABA) http://www.abalive.com today launched a new social network specifically for 50+ sports fans and enthusiasts. The site is http://50plussportsbook.com/
According to ABA President/COO Dick Packer, there are millions of seniors worldwide that participate in and follow sports. 50plussportsbook.com is an outlet devoted exclusively to them a place to share their past and present stories, to share ideas and to express their opinions.
50plussportsbook.com is different from Facebook, Twitter and other social media, stated Allen Berrabbi, ABA webmaster and designer of the site. 50plussportsbook.com will also be designed for e-commerce offering discounts on sports equipment, tickets, apparel and other things of interest to the over 50 sports fan and participant.
With seniors so active in golf, tennis, softball, basketball, soccer, and other sports, and being prime fans of high school, college and professional sports, we thought it would be a natural, commented Joe Newman,
ABA CEO. Dick Packer, Dick Tinkham and the others are over 50, very active in sports and have lots of memories, experiences and opinions to share. We hope to connect to thousands of people we know from our many years in sports and hope others will do the same.
http://50plussportsbook.com/ is free. Sign-up is simple and fast. And it is fun.
The first question posed on the site, added Dick Tinkham, co-founder of the ABA, is Who do you think would win a 3 on 3 game? Oscar Robertson, Dr. J, George Gervin or Larry Bird, Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson or LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitski? It should be an interesting and fun site.
And maybe now referees and officials will finally have a forum to express their opinions and ideas, said
Tom Chichester, ABA Director of Officials. I think we have a different perspective of the game with most of us having participated as athletes prior to becoming officials and I hope that we can get some good dialogue going from this perspective. Honored to have been the 13th player for the Vermont Frost Heaves game on 2-16-07 against the Maryland Nighthawks.
The ABA is the basketball equivalent of Amp'd Mobile.

I thought the phrase '50+ sports fans' referred to the projected seasonal attendance for most ABA teams.
My bad.
My bad.

And we believe it is better to have critics and people who care than not to have interest at all. Joe Newman 6/30/05
I never said the ABA had the greatest numbers regarding retention of teams. OldSchoolBaller (neither did we )
The ABA has tarnished minor league professional basketball throughout this country Ed Krinsky 2/15/06
We are now making some adjustments to our schedule - Joe Newman 10/9/08 in perpetuity

"If games are missed, it hurts no one" ...... ABA CEO Joe Newman 2/9/09
Due to numerous threats of legal action from certain people.......all of the above is my opinion only and it should be noted that I have never invested in the ABA. It is simply one mans opinion.
Why would people 50 and older need their own place to talk sports apart from everyone else?
This impresses me about as much as the "older woman's" clothing thing a few years back.

Much better then ABAlive posting a schedule for this season or anything....

Love how Joe is convinced that this will be the next Facebook.
Remember his last 'next big thing'?
http://www.littlerox.com/
Joe's overhyped press release:
http://www.pressrelease365.com/pr/media ... s-2587.htm
The site hasn't been update in about three years.
Let's just say poor Connie probably can't park the car on her side of the garage without hitting boxes of leftover gravel....
