Lake Michigan Admirals?

Post by Minor League Man » Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:58 am

Notice they got taken off the ABA website...also see their owner says they're going to make a HUGE announcement Wednesday.

Also notice the PBL has one open slot left in its Great Lakes region...what are your thoughts on the likely Admirals to PBL move? (I think they'll win the division)
Proud to be a veteran of these boards for the last 5 years...

Sounds like a reasonable guess.

CHICAGO, Sept. 21, 2011 /via Reuters.com/ — The Lake Michigan Admirals mark the eighth team to join the Premier Basketball League for the 2012 season tipping off in January. The Admirals based in Berrien County, Michigan, and team owners Lake Michigan Admirals Entertainment Group are excited about the upcoming season and the move to the high caliber Premier Basketball League.

“Our team has come a long way since we started in 2009. We are excited to join the Premier Basketball League and give our team the opportunity to play some high caliber professional basketball programs. The regional play model makes sense for our team, and the opportunity to have our games played on television and the internet helps our fans support us all season long,” commented Chris Glisson with the Admirals ownership group.

The Admirals program mirrors the pillars and overall fan based experience that the Premier Basketball League brings to every market with teams represented in America. Founded by Chris Glisson, the Lake Michigan Admirals brings family friendly entertainment to his hometown despite the economic downturn that Michigan is experiencing. “During the Great Depression, our society turned to baseball as a form of affordable family fun and escapism. I’m hoping to show the public a similar experience with electrifying professional basketball, outstanding half-time shows by local talent, and getting involved in the community with fund raising and special events,” continued Glisson.

The Admirals finished their 2010-2011 season fifth in the nation in the American Basketball Association with 20 wins and 6 losses, winning the North Central Division championship game against the Chicago Steam. Forward Odgra Bobo was named to the ABA East All Star team, and power forward Gordon “Gus” Chase and point guard Brandon Ball were named to the honorable mention team.

“With Chris Glisson and his excellent staff, we know that they will make the PBL proud with their professionalism and dedication in bringing professional basketball for the first time to the area,” commentedBrij Desai, PBL President and CEO.

The Admirals join the Northwest Indiana Stars as the second team from last seasons ABA roster to jump to the PBL. The PBL is going into next season with eight teams at time of press, with anticipation for more additions over the next month. “We couldn’t be happier with the intelligent growth the PBL is bringing to minor league basketball this upcoming season. It’s all about the fans and we are going to give them an experience in 2012,” finished Desai.

Honored to have been the 13th player for the Vermont Frost Heaves game on 2-16-07 against the Maryland Nighthawks.

The ABA is the basketball equivalent of Amp'd Mobile.

Pretty sure they didn't even make it that far into the season before they didn't get paid. The owner is a joke around town!!
