Casper is looking at the D-league, and the problem with adding Winnipeg and Regina are the travel cost. The ideal format would for a western hub would be 5 games in 7 days via bus trips (with only one round trip flight in and out). If the CBA can't put that type of cluster together than Minot should just move on. The key to success is having a bus league, where the total amount of travel days is limited to 15 days per season (with 15k travel budgets) I can't see Albany to Regina working.

Regina is less than 5 hours from Minot and Winnipeg is less than 6. Not too many other cities within that distance from Minot.

That is pretty close. I did not know Regina was that close.

Yes Regina is close, but unless the CBA is resigned to playing in University gyms it won't work. Unfortunately, Regina's major arena Evraz Place does not own a basketball court. I doubt they'd want to rent Credit Union Centre's for an entire winter, which is usually how they do it for things like the Globetrotters. Saskatoon is only 7 hours away, but the Hawks demonstrated that winter basketball does not work here.

If the Skyrockets wanted to start a league, they could switch to a summer league which would sell well here in Saskatoon and in Winnipeg. Throw in the nearby D-League cities and you have a decent regional league.

a bus league is exactly what I proposed here: //www.oursportscentral.com/boards/showthread.php?t=13734

---------------------
Minot to Regina can be done in 4 hours pretty easy..... Minot to Winnipeg, yes, less than 6. Unfortunately a summer league will never work for Minot or any other Dakota city........ too many fisherman, golfers, farmers, gardeners that support hoops in the winter but do their ''thing'' in the spring/summer.

Alright. The reason I mentioned a summer league is that the WBL/NBL did well attendance-wise in both Saskatoon and Winnipeg. However, the IBA's Cyclones and Hawks did not. So it stands to reason at least in Canada, summer basketball is the key. Perhaps the Dakotas are different, which is why no WBL teams were ever placed in the state.

BTW, I didn't click on the links above either. I don't need them to understand that our economy is global.

2+ years ''down the road'' now and All-Knowing Kenny was at least partially right for once.... yep, Minot is POSITIVELY affected 'cause we can at least fill some of our thousands of job openings with folks from the Northeast....
