Good news for Tulsa fans

Post by USBasket_EricE » Sun Sep 28, 2008 12:41 am

Paul Woolpert replaces Joey Meyer as the head coach of the Tulsa 66ers, thanks to their new owners, the Oklahoma City Thunder. If anyone follows the CBA, you ought to know who this guy is. The Yakama Sun Kings won a few championships with him in charge, and last season, even though they were eliminated in the play-offs, the Sun Kings finished with a 43-5 regular season record, the best in CBA history. Expect the 66ers to be title contenders this year...it's always been one of Woolpert's traditions to have a winning team. He's always fun to watch on the sidelines, showing his emotions to the refs when they make idiotic calls. Even though he was always with an opposing team, I think the fans here in Bismarck still liked him. In 2004-2005, he and Dakota coach Casey Owens would always give each other high fives when one or the other would receive a technical foul for arguing a ref's call.

I will kindly point out Joey Myers won two titles in Asheville. If I'm not mistaken even 3 years out of the D-League we're the only city with multiple D-League titles.

Good luck wherever Joey goes...we sure as hell appreciate his fine work here.

It's odd because Woolpert always seemed to have success in the CBA. And the CBA used to be as talented as the D-League until Idaho, Sioux Falls, and Dakota left.

Woolpert was better in the CBA because he had options. With the waiver wire and only being able to add players in the pool in the D-League, it's tough to get who you want.

Not sure what to make of Woolpert but this Tulsa team has been awful. They play hard, but they truly stink.
