Thunder Re-Sign Three Players for 2009 Season

Kime and Brown Headline Group of Returnees

December 9, 2008

ROCKFORD – The Rockford Thunder has re-signed utility player Shanna Diller and pitchers Allison Kime and Megan Brown, team General Manager Aaron M. Moore announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not released.

After making the roster out of the 2008 open tryouts, Brown, a native of Carrollton, Ga., finished the season with a 3-1 record and a 2.98 ERA in the circle. She struggled at times with her control, but still finished with 32 strikeouts on the year.

Kime was a free agent addition to the Thunder in 2008 and turned out to be the team’s ace in the circle. Originally from Brandon, Fla., Kime finished her rookie season with a team-best nine wins on the mound. She also led the team in innings pitched (126.2), games started (1 8) and strikeouts with 93.

Diller, who was also a free agent acquisition by the Thunder last season, completed her rookie campaign with four home runs and 13 runs batted in. She played in 46 of the team’s 48 games on the season, seeing time at all four corner positions, with a majority of her time coming at third base.

“Today has been a bittersweet type of day for us with the trade of Audrey (Rendon) this morning and the signings of these players this afternoon,” said Moore. “We were very happy with the efforts of Allison and Megan in the circle in 2008, and we believe they will add some quality and depth to our pitching staff.”

“Shanna is a player that had her ups and downs last season, but we’re very confident with having her in the lineup in several positions.”

The signings of these three players leaves the current Thunder roster at seven players. They join infielders Lindsay Gardner, Jamie Davison, Chelsea Spencer, and Olympic Gold Medal winning pitcher Cat Osterman.
