Well Oklahoma City will have an NBA team (because the Hornets are not returning to New Orleans). Book it.

My guess is the NBA will try to save face for New Orleans by having a new team there when things are cleaned up. Oklahoma City will use the Hornets name until a new franchise is formed. It will be defacto expansion.
As for the San Antonio Saints?????????

Actually, Comissioner Stern already announced that the Hornets are ABSOLUTELY going back to New Orleans for the 07-08 season. That's a given. Will OKC get a pro team?...maybe, but it won't survive, unfortunately. OKC just isn't big enough. In about 3 years, the excitement will die down.

OKC has had a heck of a lot more initial excitement than New Orleans did when getting the Hornets... not to mention Memphis.

As long as the Ford Center retrofits with more luxury suites, SOMETHING will happen. If it isn't New Orleans, it could be the Sonics.

Maybe change the name of the league. NBA 2 , People thing that the name minor or D-League is to "small" to go see.

Good idea

"NBA 2" is the best idea I've heard. It's all about perceptions. People, at least people here in Gary, would pay money to see the NBA 2 (if there was a local television contract).

..not bad. If NBA has to be in the title, it's fine.

NBA Development League has the sound that the local franchises are just in existence to benefit the big team, though. That may be true, but you don't have to emphasize it in the name. Given the move to local ownership

Look at baseball and hockey. Major League Baseball has the International League and the Pacific Coast League as its top minor leagues. Everybody knows they are "development" leagues directly affiliated with the big teams, but each league is an entity in its own right, with local sponsors, a championship trophy of its own, and independent management.

The National Hockey League has the American Hockey League. Same deal. Hockey owners generally have some flexibility to add veterans to make the teams more competitive, which is a reasonable model for the D-League.

Even in basketball, Rochester (ABA) and Yakama (CBA) celebrated their championships as significant achievements. The D-League?
