So for next season(2017-1 8) , we're looking at Milwaukee(Oshkosh or Racine), Orlando(Kissimmee or Lakeland), Denver, Minnesota(Rochester) & The Clippers(Bakersfield) all starting up teams. This also leaves Erie without an affiliate. Washington, Portland & Atlanta would be the only remaining NBA teams without a D-League team. Portland should pick-up Erie with Washington building their own arena & Atlanta likely setting up a team in Georgia.

Speaking on Atlanta, they hired a guy last year to look in to starting a D-League team. The head coach has mentioned that he really wants and needs a D-League team. Last season they worked a deal to send players to the Spurs team since they run a similar offense. That is where coach Bud came from.

Everyone assumes that the team will land in Gwinnett. It makes the most sense being the closest arena in a heavily populated area. I dont think this is going to be the case though. It would have been done by now IMO. The Arena at Gwinnett Center is not cheap to lease. Plus the Gwinnett Braves Minor League baseball team has had horrible attendance!

There are other options. Macon & Columbus in Georgia and Birmingham and Chattanooga a couple hours away. Not to mention several large convention centers in other nearby areas that could be converted for basketball.
