CBA on hiatus, Cavs headed out
The CBA is done, for at least a season, as the Cavalry have decided to head to the PBL.
The story breaks in The Sunday Constitution.

CBA gone forever
Cavalry charges into new league
NICK LIVINGSTON
The CBA is gone.
With only two teams left after the end of the 2009 season, the nation's oldest professional basketball league was left on life support with a June 1 deadline to see if the league would attempt to return.
That day is tomorrow, and it will pass with nothing happening.
So instead, the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry have decided to move forward with their future in another league.
Enter the Premiere Basketball League.
Though the league itself is in its infancy, the Cavs ownership believes the PBL represents the team's best chance for viability in a tough economy.
"For us to do what we want to do, for now this is the league that is up and coming and being aggressive in the marketplace and has a lot of cool ideas," owner Mike Brown said. "Even if none of the ideas work and we just have a season with 10 teams that start and finish it's great."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
word from Minot ownership group is that CBA gone forever. Many outstanding bills the league has, cant be paid. NO new team wants to pay $ 50,000 entrance fee and $ 70,000 travel fee and then post a 50,000 letter of credit.
No old team wants to post letter of credit due to league seizing letters of credit for no cause.....wow....everyone seems to have the Joe ABA disease lately. Well at least when Joe took letters of credit for no good cause and cashed them the teams that sued got some money back from Joe.

He's not exactly bubbling over with confidence, is he? Why even bother to have a team?!?"For us to do what we want to do, for now this is the league that is up and coming and being aggressive in the marketplace and has a lot of cool ideas," owner Mike Brown said. "Even if none of the ideas work and we just have a season with 10 teams that start and finish it's great."

The Cavs owners are just wanting to have a season, period. They like what the PBL is doing, but they are more concerned with having a group of stable teams that want to go out and play and maybe have a schedule that is set by August for January games instead of having 1,500 different schedules on the day before the first game is supposed to be played.
I think the PBL is a little sketchy with its entire business model, but if they have a season with a stable group of teams then they win over the market here.
its called tax write -offs....
Not everyone in sports is looking to make money. They have tax reasons for doing it.
...or they can just take the standard deduction and make more money without losing their shirt on minor league basketball. Heck! YOU posted the guy's comments. Did he seem confident to you (because he certainly didn't seem confident to me)?

CBA is the New ABA
Right form a Minot owner .... Fernandez of the CBA trying to cash in letters of credit from Minot for CBA expenses.. WOW. MInot blocking attempts for that to happen. East Kentucky never put in a letter of credit as requested last season. Joe N. meet Fernandez.....Birds of a feather
Based on Word from Minot owner... CBA is history.
Attempts to lure new teams into CBA.... no takers !!! ZERO , zilch !

The four owners of the Lawton-Ft. Sill Cavalry are confident in the team. They have been burned by the CBA owners and are tired of paying for more than just the teams expenses.
The owners feel that the PBL gives them a better chance to have a team for the city/ Area to enjoy that the last minute schedules and changes that happpend last year. Very hard to fill the seats for games when even the owners didn't if visiting teams were going to show up.
The PBL seems to have a better buisness model than the CBA/ ABA has.
Mike Brown, one of the owners of the team, even stated that they never concidered joining the ABA because of how it is ran, that is another reason why they didn't agree to play the pre-games with them at the start of last season.
I think the biggest issue at this point the PBL and the CAVS working out all the travel arrangements home and away games. Logistical Nightmare is what it will be.
