No stories, but I seem to remember him with Idaho, albeit briefly..

Doug Gottlieb did not play in the CBA.

He did play six games in 2001 with the IBA's Salina Rattlers.

He was also in the USBL in 2000 and 2002 with the Oklahoma Storm.

Next?

Oh Chuck. Always so knowledgeable! And witty - love the "Next!"

"He spent this season with the Idaho Stampede in the D-League, where a friend and former coach of mine, Brian Gates, took him under his wing." -- ESPN

"He played in the CBA for the Idaho Stampede and for the Salina (Kan.) Rattlers of the IBA, but his playing career wasn't taking off" LA Times

Here, it shows him being released by Idaho on December 14th, 2000.
CNNSI Transactions

Now, I know the season November 24th at the latest that season - and that's 3 weeks later...

While Gottlieb may not be in your system, could he still have been a member of the Idaho Stampede, Oh Great One?

You may both be right. He may have been on the roster, but Ken said he "... did not play in the CBA." He may never have taken the court.

12/15. Wow. I'll put out that caveat that I wasn't completely sober last night, so when I went and look at the Wizards spreadsheet, I saw it was November 24th - in the IBA, not CBA.

Thanks for looking into it, and my apologies.

The Idaho Stampede (CBA) signed him on Nov. 28, 2000, prior to training camp, just to release him on Dec. 13, 2000, two days before their opening game. 15 days later, on Dec. 28, 2000, he signed with the Salina Rattlers of the (now defunct) IBA. He then played in six games (four starts) before the team placed him on the suspended list on Jan. 11, 2001. No reason was given. In February 2001 he joined Ural Great Perm of Russia and won the Russian Championship.

Doug was a pretty solid point guard for a pretty good Oklahoma Storm team in the USBL in 2000 with Brian Gates. He never could score, but was a good assist man. Fans in Dodge City and Kansas gave him a lot of crap because he was a horrible shooter at Oklahoma State and he was familiar because of the Big 12 ties. The Storm had Ira Newble and Reggie Slater who went on to the NBA as well as Willie Burton. They lost to Dodge City in the USBL Championship Game.

He came back to the Storm in 2002 when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the coach and from what I understand they didn't hit it off too well....The owner wanted to keep him because he was one of the most popular players and Kareem didn't....Kareem won...

I saw him play in the IBA with the Rattlers one time too...didn't last long...they let him go because he wanted to go to Russia.

One story I heard....He wanted to play in Israel but wasn't good enough to earn one of their two American "spots." He decided to fill out the paperwork to become an Israeli citizen....after he did it....he realized that as a citizen he was obligated to serve a military hitch...needless to say...he got out of it somehow and came home.
