From article in the LMTonline:
Laredo matched up with the Warriors despite originally being scheduled to face off with the Kalamazoo Pure. But ABA co-founder Joe Newman told LMT that the Kalamazoo owner abandoned the franchise before the series leading to the team removed from the field. Later on, the Pure managed to make the event as the players banded together and got themselves there without their owner, and the ABA rewarded their efforts by putting them in the play-in round while keeping their replacements in the Warriors (13-3) in the matchup with Laredo.
I dont want to give any excuses, but the reality for us is thats more of a second or third game thing to play that type of team, Gates said. I was saying to myself, That cant be the 10th best team in the ABA right now. But if we wouldve played our game then we couldve made it competitive, so at the end of the day they did what they were supposed to do and pressed the pedal and didnt let up.
Or maybe Laredo wasn't the top team in the league.
