Someone please contact Chris at Terry & Don's Gymnastics (or comment on this post) about the lady warrior dance team. They worked out here for months and months & left me with no contact info and a rather large past due balance. (843) 650-6731, Thank you

Local owners take control of ABAs South Carolina Warriors
Businessman among trio that has taken majority ownership
By Ryan Young - ryoung@thesunnews.com
Off to a 19-0 start in their first year of American Basketball Association competition and tied for first in the leagues national power rankings, the South Carolina Warriors have had an encouraging debut season on the court.
And theyve recently gotten some encouraging news off of it, as well.
A local ownership group has taken over majority control of the franchise in the past few weeks, hoping to stabilize the Warriors a professional team comprised of former college basketball players as a part of the Myrtle Beach community going forward.
Jason Warren, a 39-year-old former senior quality assurance manager for Wyndham Vacation Resorts who owns a tanning salon in Carolina Forest, said he is one of three majority owners now with two of those three based in Myrtle Beach. He declined to reveal the other two or what kind of financial investment he made.
We want to build something for the community they can be proud of, Warren said by phone Friday.
The team was launched over the summer by The Platinum Entertainment Group LLC, out of Indiana, and control of the franchise changed hands before the start of the season to TargetMarket Strategies, also based in Indiana. Former general manager Tony Bennett was involved in both groups.
And it was by chance that Warren ended up sitting near Bennett at the Warriors debut game on Nov. 18 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. That started the process.
Its funny how things happened, Warren said. I certainly didnt go looking to be the part-owner of an ABA team, but being a businessman and basketball nut I got introduced to the team through an intern who tans at my tanning salon who wanted to know if I was interested in doing a sponsorship.
Warren agreed to be a sponsor for the team, and at the first game he got to talking to Bennett.
He said, We live in Indiana and we really need some local ownership that can give the team the attention that it needs, Warren recalled. It sparked my interest.
He and his wife, Derickia, took their time considering the possibility. And when the Warriors were playing games at the North Strand Recreation Center in Little River, he expressed his opinion that if the team was going to survive long-term and if he was going to get involved, it had to move. The Warriors have since ended up settling in at the new Carolina Forest Recreation Center their third home court of the season.
Its no secret, it was a very shaky start, Warren said of the franchise. The basketball was great I dont think anybody could question the players and the coaches. The foundation was there on the court. The problem was off the court. I dont hold anything against Tony, but he doesnt live here. They got off to a little rocky start and I think weve got the ownership stability now. Weve got stability now within Carolina Forest.
It took a long time [to decide to buy in]. Me and my wife just really sat back and took our time to make sure this was what we wanted to do. Its all worked out. Were excited, the teams excited. I think were heading in the right direction.
The ABA has a history of turnover and short-lived franchises, but the Warriors have been an undeniable success on the court and Warren believes they can be a profitable, sustaining organization into the future.
Part of creating a successful business model for the Warriors, he said, is making the franchise a year-round part of the community instead of a team that comes and goes once the season ends. That means putting on youth basketball camps, hosting 3-on-3 tournaments, etc. Warren also believes his familiarity with the community will help increase sponsorships.
Its actually pretty simple if its just done right, he said. We know a lot of people in the community. I know a lot of people that own businesses, car dealerships. Im very connected with our church. I own a tanning salon here in Carolina Forest. People know who we are and know were a solid family.
I already have business people that once they knew we were involved, they were already writing sponsorship checks. Not that Im the answer to everything, but I know a lot of people and they know Im going to treat people good and Im going to build something for the community. I think once the community will get around it, I think the revenue part will take care of itself.
Warriors coach Chris Beard said he and his players have taken a lot of pride in helping the team to a strong start in its inaugural season, and whether or not he or they are part of it next year, he believes the new owners will continue progressing the franchise forward.
They have a vision for the team not only a vision to keep winning basketball games but a vision to be a part of the community, Beard said. This was never about just a four-month basketball season. This new ownership group is going to be really, really good for the South Carolina Warriors.
Notes
Asked about his own future with the team, Beard who was formerly a longtime assistant coach at Texas Tech said he hasnt thought much about that just yet.
Im definitely not trying to dodge the question; Im just really going day by day, he said. Its been a tremendous experience. Im really enjoying the basketball, the players. I look forward to going to practice every day. [Legendary college coach Bob Knight] always said the best job in the world is the job you have right now. Ive tried to learn that from coach to just embrace and enjoy each day.
Beard also revealed that the Warriors, who have six regular-season games left (four at home), have been told they will be a host for the first round of the ABA playoffs, the weekend of March 17.
I think its pretty cool for the fan base, he said. Weve had some loyal fans. Any team is trying to get more fans, were no different, but weve been really proud and pleased with our loyal fan base.
The team has also added a new player former Texas Tech forward Mike Singletary though his stay with the team could be brief. Singletary will be in uniform for the Warriors home game Saturday night, but Beard isnt sure if hell play and noted that Singletary has been receiving some interest from teams in Europe.

You know, a suspicious mind (not me of course) would wonder just who is involved in Platinum Entertainment and TargetMarket from INDIANA.
Hmmm... open up a team in a market, make the opening a big splash, get a bunch of local businesspeople to come to the game, hit them up to be owners, leave them with the unpaid bills.
THEORETICALLY someone set up a team, made money from the tryout camps, sent people out to recruit sponsors, got paid by the sponsors, recruited said sponsors to pay them to become owners, claimed no money (after all, why sell a successful team) and left with a hefty profit. Heck, they might not even have paid the market reservation fee.

I'm guessing they saw him coming 5280 feet away. Its funny how things happened, Warren said. I certainly didnt go looking to be the part-owner of an ABA team, but being a businessman and basketball nut "

Owns a tanning salon..
Look if he owned a chain of salons then this would be of interest. But one tanning salon, not seeing anything but a guy willing to part with his and his friends money. Sad knows the next investors from church? Always a bad play. Good luck Mr Tan.
Dear Jack, We believe Joe Newman has a vision. As opposed to blogging his mission negatively why don't you offer suggestions of support and help. We did, Regards Roland Rodgers CEO BSN LLC

That's pretty funny as well.
