If I remember correctly, the ABA's phantom Chi-Town Bulldogs were also billed as local competition for the Steam going into this season.
I'm sure you're correct that the Bulldogs were announced as local competition for the Steam, but they never appeared on any schedule of the four Great Lakes teams.
That's kind of like Joe Newman allegedly claiming that if you took away Derrick Rose and a couple of other players, the Chicago Steam could beat the Bulls. Sorry Joe, but you can pick any five guys on the Chicago Bulls roster and they would slaughter the Steam.

I disagree - Joe might be right here

If you took away Rose and couple other players, the Steam could beat the Bulls...

... of course, the Steam would be playing 5 players vs. 2 for the Bulls, so.......

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Olympia Rise has been added to the fast growing PAC NW Division of the league and will begin playing next season. “One of our goals has been to build the Pac NW Division,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “We had the nucleus of a strong division but needed 2-3 more teams to make travel easier and improve the competition – and we are very pleased and fortunate to have the two Reynolds brothers as part of the ABA.”

The team is owned by Reynolds Sports Entertainment, Inc, a not-for-profit corporation, owned and operated by two brothers, Chris and Tim Reynolds, both of whom have excellent backgrounds in sports and business.

Chris Reynolds was a 3-sport varsity athlete at Lakes High School in Lakewood WA before attending Walla Walla Community where he played football and Empire State College SUNY where he studied criminal justice and social services. He went on to play professional football for the Arena Football League (Detroit Fury) and the European Federation of American Football (Paris France). He is a former Probation/Parole Office in the State of Idaho; owner of Platinum Events & Security – Boise Buccaneers Minor League Football Organization in Boise, Idaho.

Tim Reynolds was a two sport varsity athlete at Lakes High and is currently Logistics Supervisor at Best Buy as well as the owner of the South King County Colts Football organization in Auburn, WA.

“After over 20 years of playing football and running two successful football organizations for four years, we decided to take on the challenge of creating a professional basketball team in the ABA,” added Chris. “Our experience in running these two football programs of over 40 plus players on each team and a team of staffed volunteers, we believe we can take our experience and create a really successful ABA team.”

The team will be playing at Evergreen State College and will hold its first tryout April 14th at Evergreen.

And what makes them think they will succeed in Vegas when so many other ABA teams there have flopped?

Lynn Pingol swerves as the CEO
Fixed that for Joe.

After all, once she sees the disaster she's signed on for, she'll be swerving to avoid all of the pitfalls...

Just ABA teams? No basketball team in any league has ever survived in Vegas.

Here's a shocker... just like with the LV Vipers, LV Slam, LV Aces, and the other ABA teams that we've "had" here in Las Vegas, this team has had NO coverage locally. I'm sure they'll end up playing in some po-dunk rec center gym and will fold after two games.
