The Showboats Grammar thread....

by ABARedWhiteBlue
Just as I did for the Gwizz, I'd like to set up a thread for the releases and 'official' communications for the newly-added South Texas Showboats.

Based on a look through the Showboats' website, and the apparent hiring by Georgia of someone with a working knowledge of middle-school spelling and grammar, the Showboats may raise (lower?) the bar for amazing releases.

Our new heroes (all posted word for word as they actually appear - you can't make this stuff up):

Coach / NEW Owner Doing GREAT THINGS!!!

To all of our fans,

Benjamin Mireles(Myself) has been giving his predictions on the remainder of the season. He has tremendous work with putting his team back on top of the basketball world. He has found great sponsors and people to help him in the journey of success and now must face his hardest challenge. He has recieved an award from the East-side Boys N Girls Club for his Honesty, Committment, and success at the facility which helps with growing of the youth in the community. He has put together a STRONG FOUNDATION for his team which also volunteers at several facilities here in the city of San Antonio. The players also recieved the award for honorship and committment. The awards and pictures will be hung and posted up at the CiCi's Pizza on Austin Hwy and we encourage anyone to come and visit the Sponsor who has begun to help with the success of this TEAM!!.

07/10/08 - American Basketball Association (ABA)

San Antonio, TX. The ABA San Antonio Showboats professional basketball team that begins play in December have announced its first two tryout camps - scheduled for August 1st, 2nd and 3rd - followed by August 28th, 29th, 30th. The location will be the Christian World of Ministries, 6633 Walzern Road, San Antonio, Texas. The times will be Friday 730pm-1030pm, Saturday 11am-9pm, Sunday 3pm-6pm. Advanced registration will be $75 (by July 21st for first camp) or (by August 9th for the second camp). Walk-up will be $125 per player. "This is San Antonio and the return of the ABA, a city with memories of the original ABA San Antonio Spurs and the incomparable George "Iceman" Gervin," said owner/coach Benjamin Mireles. "We have some big shoes to fill and we are looking for the next "Iceman" to lead our team.
This is San Antonio Thanks for the geography lesson...
and the return of the ABA, that's your fault...
a city with memories of the original ABA San Antonio Spurs but, I bet San Antonians have even fonder memories of the Sprus winning 4 NBA TITLES in the past 11 years - the Admiral, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobli, Tony Parker (and Eva)... did none of this actually happen, or will 'true' San Antonians not be happy until they are back in a league with a red/white/blue ball?

South Texas Showboats Invite NBA, ABA and Spurs Legends
07/17/08 - American Basketball Association (ABA)

San Antonio, TX. The new ABA South Texas Showboats professional basketball team scheduled to begin play in December has scheduled a press conference for Wednesday, July 23rd, and according to team owner Benjamin Mireles, "It would be great if former NBA players would join us at the press conference. George Gervin, Dr. J, David Robinson, John Silas and others have played such an important role in the NBA and also pro basketball in San Antonio. We would be honored to have as many here as possible on this historic evening when the ABA returns to San Antonio."
At the press conference, Cleveland Phelps, head of the ABA Southwest Regional Management Committee, will officially welcome the Showboats to the league. The exact time and place of the press conference will be announced early next week, but if you are a former NBA player or a former San Antonio Spur, would you please contact Ben Mireles at 210 897 0379 or email coachb_showboats08@yahoo.com or visit http://www.sanantonioproball.com or http://www.abalive.com.
or if you have ever seen an NBA game, or have ever heard of the NBA, or know what a basketball is, or have a pulse, please contact us...

Just like Joe - don't reach out or make the first move; rather, sit back and talk about how great it would be if they would just call you (see Debacle, Katrina Charity for more info on how the master plays the game)

This is simply ridiculous....................................

in other news I am having a little BBQ this weekend. It would be great if current or former Playboy bunnies, bikini models and beauty pagent contestants could be at my place for the BBQ. I sent out the following release to various dance clubs, adult entertainment venues, dirty magazines and massage parlours.

Providence RI. Paul S from oursportscentral boards has scheduled a BBQ for this Saturday night , and according to home owner Paul S, "It would be great if former current or former Playboy bunnies, bikini models and beauty pagent contestants players would join us at the BBQ. Marissa Miller, Christie Brinkley and Jenna Jameson and others have played such an important role in the adult and mens entertainment industry. I would be honored to have as many here as possible on this historic evening when Paul S cranks up his BBQ.
At the press conference, Murray Kennaugh, head of the Rhode Island Union 206 lumber union will officially welcome all ladies to Paul S' BBQ. The exact time and place of the BBQ will be announced early next week, but if you are a current or former Playboy bunnies, bikini models and beauty pagent contestants , would you please contact Paul S.

All I need is a couple more spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and bad syntax and it would be on the same level. I'm also confident that Paul S' BBQ will have about as many current or former Playboy bunnies, bikini models and beauty pagent contestants as NBA players will waltz down to the Showboats conference.

South Texas Showboats To Hold Last Tryouts
09/08/08 - American Basketball Association (ABA)

• Discuss this story on the American Basketball Association message board...
San Antonio, TX. The ABA South Texas Showboats will hold their last set of walk-on tryouts on Friday, September 26th from 9pm-midnight.

"We are holding these tryouts because we believe that even with the roster we have right now, we still have room for some real talent at the PG/SG-SF/PM spots," said head coach Ben Mireles. "We only have 11 guaranteed spots on this team as of right now and we are looking for players that know the game, know the responsibilities, an know the commitment. I only want players that are here to be basketball players on and off the court."

The Showboats will carry a fifteen man active roster and a five man practice squad (20 players). No traveling team. Just one team. The fee is $75 at the door, $50 for early registration. For more information, email coachb_showboats08@yahoo.com or call 210 897 0379 (for early registration) or visit http://www.abalive.com.
What is the PM spot? Is is for the guy who replaced Tony Blair?

They have only have 11 guaranteed spots, but he says they will have a 20-man roster.

And, he wants people who are there "to be basketball players on and off the court." What does a person have to do to be considered a basketball player "off the court" - walk around in uniform, post up a crossing guard, bounce pass the salt shaker at dinner, pull off the warm-ups and jump of the seat when their number is called for a table at Olive Garden?

Didn't you watch season's one and two of Happy Days? Chuck was always
seen with a basketball in his hands. Also, much like most ABA teams, Chuck
disappeared with no explanation or mention, after one and a half season's.

Be all you can be...

Showboats to play Army in exhibition
09/28/08 - American Basketball Association (ABA) South Texas Showboats

Benjamin Mireles and the Army have agreed to a FREE exhibition October 3rd at 7pm at Fort Sam Houston Base for the local community in San Antonio, Tx.
"We are very excited about this opportunity to come out and play against the ARMY and to be able to perform at a high level in front of a really good crowd. This game will allow the civilians access on base and must have proper identification and current registration on vehicle to enter gate since the game will be played at Fort Sam Houston Base." said Owner and Head Coach Ben Mireles.

This will be a very exciting game and this will be a good chance to see the new expansion team in action.

"We believe that this game will bring back some memories to people who remeber when George Gervin played with the SPURS before they merged into the NBA in 1976 and will bring honor back to the red white and blue ball. Also, we are talking about possibly playing another game, after this one, that will be a benifit for victims of Hurricane Ike in the coming weeks. So please visit us at www,sanantonioproball.com for more updates.

South Texas Showboats schedule pair of games
09/29/08 - American Basketball Association (ABA) South Texas Showboats

The South Texas Showboats have announced a game in which they will be competing against the Air force on Sunday October 11 at 2pm in San Antonio, TX at Lackland Air force Base. "This is a real honor to be able to compete against our local Air force team October 11 here in San Antonio. San Antonio is synonymous with basketball and I believe this kind of opportunity will give us some exposure with our new expansion team here." said Coach Mireles. The Showboats are the first ever minor-league professional basketball team in San Antonio, Tx since the San Antonio Spurs merged from the ABA to the NBA in 1976. This will be a great opportunity for this team to be able to co-exist with a Championship Team in the NBA. "We believe that within time, we will be able to benefit both the local community and the San Antonio Spurs with really great players from all over the map. We want to bring in caliber players who are positive role models to the youth in our community and for teams to be able to scout our players. said coach Mireles.

The Showboats have also agreed to host a game against the San Angelo Chaparrals from the TPBL. This game is scheduled for Sunday October 19, 2008 at 5pm-8pm at Antioch Sports Complex in San Antonio, TX. "We are happy to be able to get these games this month. It will be good for my guys to get these games under their belt and for them to get some reps. We believe we can compete at a high level and will do our best to show our city we will have a good team this year."said Head Coach/Owner Benjamin Mireles
