The Amarillo Dusters have submitted an application to join the Indoor Football League, team owner/president Randy Sanders said Thursday afternoon.
The Dusters had been considering two leagues - the IFL or the newly-formed Arena Football 1, a combination of former teams in the AFL and af2.
"Our decision is to play in the IFL this year," said Sanders, whose team was a member of af2 last season. "We submitted our application to the IFL. We're going to move forward."
Part of the decision-making process was the opinion of the fans, who were allowed to vote on the Dusters' Web site their league preference. There were 4,684 votes on the team's Web site.
"It was 65-35 (in favor of the IFL)," Sanders said. "We feel like we have done the right thing and done our due diligence."
Sanders said he expects the IFL owners, who have to vote on new teams, to approve the Dusters' application.
The IFL, created in 2008 from a merger between the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football, has 19 teams from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Maryland. The Dusters won the Intense Football League title in 2004. The Intense Conference's Lonestar Division has teams in El Paso, Abilene, San Angelo, Corpus Christi and Odessa.
Former Texas A&M running back Jorvorskie Lane signed "a letter of intent" with Odessa on Wednesday.
