The New af1 will be playing in 2010, the af2 does not exist anymore I don't think. The af1 will have 2 tiers, Tier 1 and Tier 2. The players salaries will be $400 a game and the players pay may increase every year.

Are the Iron joining the af1 Tier 1 league or folding?

The Iron said in their PR announcing Gary Compton's exit that they'd be playing at the "highest level of arena football" next year.

Also listed Monday as the date...So basically, that means welcome the Milwaukee Iron to Tier 1!
Proud to be a veteran of these boards for the last 5 years...

they should set it up like the English Premier Soccer league. Where teams move up and down based on how good they are between the tier's. I always thought it was an interesting idea and it could really work in the indoor game.

We won't know the meat of the list until next week, but you can make a decent start to the list from here.

Shock, Tri-Cities in new Arena Football League

Shock, Tri-Cities in new arena football league
9/28/09

TULSA, Okla. — Arena football isn’t dead yet. Officials from what will be known as Arena Football 1 said Monday they will have 16 teams ready to play in 2010, including three in former Arena Football League markets: Chicago, Phoenix and Orlando, Fla. The league will also have teams from the AFL spinoff, arenafootball2, as well as at least one team from another indoor league.

The new league says its markets also include Bossier-Shreveport, La., Arkansas, Fresno, Calif., Des Moines, Iowa, Jacksonville, Fla., Kentucky, Milwaukee, Oklahoma City, Alabama, Kennewick, WA., Tulsa, Okla., and Utah. The new league says eight more teams have submitted membership applications.

The old AFL canceled its 2009 season and folded in August, ending a 22-year run for the high-scoring indoor brand of football that helped launch the career of Super Bowl winner Kurt Warner. Play in af2 was never disrupted, but teams ended the season unsure of what would happen next. The new league will be based in Tulsa.

I have read that the San Jose SaberCats will make a decision soon as to join Arena Football 1 or stay with the other AFL owners who are trying to relaunch the original AFL for 2011. So far, Grand Rapids, Kansas City, Utah Blaze, have committed to the 2011 AFL Relaunch instead of joining the AF1. This does not make any sense since they could do both, but seem to remain committed to 2011 instead. A Few Questions: What will Chicago's name be? Could it be Rush, Bruisers, or could it be the Chicago Slaughter of the CIFL with Mike Ditka as part owner? What is up with the Tampa Bay Storm? How about these other franchises: New York Dragons, Dallas Desperados, the Pittsburgh Franchise that Lynn Swann was to launch, and what is up with Philadelphia and a rumored Colorado Crush return? Most of the rumors I read are about the 2011 relaunch of the AFL and not this AF1. Supposedly there will be an announcement about the 2011 reformation of the AFL by the end of October. Last, what is the status of most of the AF2 franchises not listed in this new AF1 such as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers? Any and all information is welcome. The AF1 was supposed to be a two-tier league with the stronger franchises in the upper tier. What happened to that idea? Is it still in the works since the AF1 appears to be adding more franchises with more announcements later next week.

Update: Albany Firebirds are one of eight teams being considered for AF1 applications; AF1 giving Firebirds until October 9 to have financing in place to join; what has happened to South Georgia, Kentucky, Amarillo, and Tennessee Valley? The Dusters are supposed to make a decision tomorrow as to join the AF1 or the IFL. The Boise Burn ceased operations today when one of the three major investors pulled out when they were not listed among the new AF1; unless another can be found soon, then their future is kaput.

South Georgia Wildcats future still unknown

The Wildcats hope to join a new arena football league

The arena football league holds a conference call to announce the future of the league and what it means for their football teams. The league is now called the Arena Football One League. It currently has 16 teams... the South Georgia Wildcats is not one of them. However, Wildcats general manager Ryan Nolen tells Fox 31 news they are one of 24 teams that have applied to be a part of the league. Nolen says the team must first get its deal made with the city of Albany, before the league will approve the team's application. In addition, Nolen says he is confident the Wildcats will be able to make a deal with the city to play next season.

Additional teams will be announced by the league on October 9th.
