Well. They're down to 8

Post by Scottmoney » Wed Oct 12, 2016 6:51 pm

I read today that the Orlando predators, one of the premier franchises, has suspended operations. This move ends the best rivalry the afl had in 30 years. The war on i-4 was the fuel of this league for a long time.

All I can say is there are more coming out of that league, some inquiring about options, in other places.

Jacksonville has said they're leaving (separate announcement of their new home is pending, of course).

The AFL is in a death spiral right now. You have to wonder if they can pull out.

Jacksonville Sharks gone too

Post by ranger21263 » Wed Oct 12, 2016 11:56 pm

Down to 7 now. Jacksonville Sharks announced today they are leaving the AFL for another league. They also say in their press release that other will be joining them in the new league...

The LA Kiss are done, too. Expect an announcement shortly. Owners will cease operations. Portland Steel are league owned, so they're done unless they have a surprise owner waiting for Portland. That brings the league down to just 5(Arizona, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Washington & Tampa Bay).

R.I.P. Arena Football League 1987-2016

Post by LordBy2014 » Thu Oct 13, 2016 5:58 pm

(of course, that is minus 1 year for re-organization)

Looks like the end of an era is near - not seeing any scenario where they manage to survive if they are truly down to four (4) teams or less . . .

Arena League was the blueprint for what other alternative leagues should try to follow: start small, build up your audience/product and grow it slow and steady . . . the Jon Bon Jovi/John Elway era ultimately did in the AFL . . .

Will be interesting to follow the IFL and see if they can sustain what they have . . .

What is the "rattling" sound I hear over at the IFL? Seems they are celebrating their new status as the king of all Indoor Football Leagues. It appears the smart teams know where to go to turn a profit.

Wait this is the same king, that had one coach leave to sign a contract to become head coach of one team in a sinking league, clearly he didn't get the memo the I :( FL is now a profitable franchisor, when did that happen? Well it could be said that with the annual league dues the league office is probably the only profitable part of that .

History

The ArenaBowl is the championship game competed in by the American Conference and National Conference champions at the end of the playoffs. An ArenaBowl has been played every season of the AFL's existence and the winners are awarded the coveted Foster Trophy, named for Jim Foster, one of the founding members of the AFL and its first commissioner.

While the early ArenaBowls were played at the home site of the better regular season or higher seeded team, since 2005 the game has been held in a neutral location with the exception of the 2010 and 2011 ArenaBowls.

The current ArenaBowl champions are the Arizona Rattlers.

ARENABOWL COMPOSITE STANDINGS

Orders, should your king league ever get to those kinds of numbers within the league championship then they could claim the thrown.

Now for an indoor league this would be outstanding numbers, the 13,000 for this years championship game tells the story of a concept in trouble.
