The Mudbugs don't play anymore ;-)

Why take the Battlewings? Because they are an existing ARENA team. The owner was willing (begging) to move them to New Orleans.

The `Wings were in a small market with declining attendance. They were an af2 team/franchise that couldn't acquire enough fans and sponsorship to pay the AFL's higher cost of doing business. Last season the AFL COB was much less than the previous AFL but still $800k to a mil higher than af2 COB.

New Orleans had an avid fanbase that drew attendance figures at the top of the league. Bossier/Shreveport could never supply the butts in seats New Orleans can. You can get more sponorship/advertising dollars in New Orleans. New Orleans has hosted the ArenaBowl.

The Tennessee Valley, err, the Alabama Vipers another af2 franchise/market trying to move up couldn't sustain the AFL COB and next season will be the Georgia Force. Replacing another previous larger market with another team. The AFL would like to move into larger markets.

Maybe next year the Mudb, err, Wildcatters will be in the af3 playing ArenaBall along with the other SIFL/AIFA teams. Stay tuned for another episode of "As the Leagues Turn."

The sad thing about Bossier-Shreveport is it was a solid af2 franchise.

^^^^Yeah, they seemed to be a solid franchise indeed. Bossier-Shreveport vs. New Orleans would've became a great in-state rivalry.

I should have emphasized the af2 part. You can see what happens when you add all that $$$$ to the budget in a jump to AFL.
