Well, folks, looks like Orem has come into the AIFA. Welcome Utah Valley Thunder (how original) ! This is probably the "relocated" Utah Saints, as they have one former Saint player. Well, looks like we'll see Wentachee, WA; and Las Vegas, NV soon.

Also, their home venue (the McKay Events Center-as professional as you can get out West) will host AIFA Championship Bowl III. If they can secure this good of a venue, then I have hope for them.

Thoughts anyone?

This venue is great and will work at an indoor football arena, unlike the Golden Spike in Ogden. Now if someone has some money or a big line of credit. Good Luck! Cheers, captjack

What also makes McKay Events Center better than the other Beehive State venues is that it's proven-it hosted a PIFL team in '98 (the Utah Catzz, who later went on to form the Utah Indoor Football League).

I wish them nothing but the best here-Are you ready for AIFA Championship Bowl III, captjack? (cuz the McKEC is hosting it in '09)

Depends....not the adult diaper...

If this cat actually has some money to do it right! I will believe it when I see it as the Utah (S) aints were just that aints'. But at least this arena can host arena football. Thanks for reminding me of the name of the team, Utah Catzz. Seems to me that the owner of the Aints' was the quarterback of the Catzz one season (?). Sorry my alltimers is kicking in this morning!
Good Luck to the Utah Valley Thunder but I will still buy one game ticket at a time. Cheers, captjack

A few words after some research....

1. Dave Affleck purchased the rights to the Utah (S)aint's and moved them to Utah County.
2. His son was quaterback of the Saints last year.
3. He said in the DNews, he wants to play quarterback on his own team.
4. Was a JC transfer to BYU in 1972.
5. Caught 2 passes in 2 seasons, 72 yards 1 TD (1973)!
6. CEO of a company in Orem.
7. Prediction will loose his shirt with this venture.
8. One more game syndrome.
But still I will go see a game or two (if the other teams shows)with my grandkids to support the effort. Cheers, captjack.
BTW No beer sales in the MDEC, BYOB! :) cj

If I'm in SLC and have nothing better to do, I may try and see a game. But, given the history of indoor football, I know about what to expect.

I'm usually one of the first to point out lack of beer sales as a reason a team may not have staying power.

For someone else to point that out regarding a team in UTAH, that's telling. Gosh. I usually cut them some slack.

Speaking of pro teams on the UVU campus, do the Owlz sell beer?

no...

they barely sell beer in this county. All of the good beers, wines, and even coolers are now sold at the State Liquor Stores! About a 200% mark up and you have to travel far and wide to find them. No wonder this State is still thought of as UTucky. Cheers, jack.

In Utah's primary religion, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), alcohol is strictly forbidden.

So, lack of beer sales won't be an inhibitor there.
