What will the New Mexico Wildcats do when the AF2 team starts there next year?

I seem to remember the af2 team saying that they will not be playing in Rio Rancho and that they will wait until Albuquerque builds a new downtown arena. There have only been "discussions" of a downtown arena. And even if a new downtown arena gets approval, construction wouldn't begin until 2010 at the earliest.

But the way things are going right now for the AIFA in Albuquerque, they may not be around after this season anyway. So it would be a non-issue.

Enjoy the moment.

As long as they play all of their games scheduled for this year (plus playoff obligation) they did things right.
If you don't let the people with the money know you prefer the NIFL game system, you won't see any stable leagues copying the NIFL game system for your enjoyment!

I am not sure how a 'one-and-done' franchise is 'doing things right.'

Yearly renewable commitments.

You have a team for entertainment for a year until AF2 moves in.

Are you saying you would have preferred nothing for a year?

I don't see how that is the right way to operate a sports franchise. You are either in it for the long haul, or you don't do anything. If you just do it for a year, there is no way you make money at this level. Any person who would be decent at this level would never get in it for the intentions of just doing it for a year.

However, based on everything that is not happening with this franchise, who even knows if they will get off the ground, so this discussion may be mute.

News flash: About half the NFL teams lose money each year (minimal loses but nevertheless losses).

Sports ownership is a show-off hobby.

Have you been living in a cave or something? The NFL is the most profitable of all the major leagues, with operating income (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) for the 32 teams coming in at $851 million on revenue of $5.3 billion, an operating margin of 16%. (This is for 2004, the most recent season available. These margins increased at close to 17% over the previous year so the profits have only gone up, not down.)

In 2004, ONE of the 32 teams operated in the red; the Arizona Cardinals. With their new stadium in place last year, they are no longer losing money.

People stress the violence. That's the smallest part of it. Football is brutal only from a distance. In the middle of it there's a calm, a tranquility. The players accept pain. There's a sense of order even at the end of a running play with bodies strewn everywhere. When the systems interlock, there's a satisfaction to the game that can't be duplicated. There's a harmony.

The NFL is the most lucrative professional sports league. With the TV, marketing, etc. Every team makes a huge profit.

I think Championsofsteel meant to say "about half the NIFL teams lose money each year" A simple typo leaving out the "I"
