Atta boy Keller....

Post by WorcShark » Wed Apr 15, 2009 9:36 pm

So you send out an email to the CIFL forum (not OSC forum but the CIFL website forum) that people using gmail accounts will be banned, but you send it without using BCC?

So now people's private emails which they signed up with are no longer private, and are now subject to spam from others?

Director of Media? You can't even do "email 101"?

What in the world could possibly be the rationalization for banning users with gmail accounts?

Here is what we are doing...

We have asked exisiting users that have gmail email accounts to change their registered email because we are getting a large number of spam registrations and 90% of them are from gmail accounts.

In order to put a restriction on gmail accounts being used to register for the forum, we have to ask each person to change theirs or their account will be rejected when we put the restriction in place next week as it was clearly explained in the email.

Anyone that was a CC on the email was a "real person" because we have eliminated those spam accounts and any users that have never used their account.

That is why... we are trying to cut down on spam for our board and the users.

Except it wasn't CC'd, or the acceptable BCC, it was in the "To:" All the email addresses were exposed. I guess you aren't worried about others being spammed.

Whatever dude. What does this have to do with indoor football?
This OSC board is for CIFL fans. Go stick your head in a hard drive.

You're a bright one aren't ya? Mickey Mouse league sends out a Mickey Mouse email from their on again, off again, on again employee about spam and exposes their email addresses. Is it clear enough now or should I slow it down even further?

I can't. Not enough room with all the bad sectors you created.

Better message board software is a better way to go. Too many people use gmail.

Yeah, not using BCC for this type of notification was a pretty big goof. I don't give out my email addies as a rule, even my Gmail ones, and I'd be mad if I was on a board where my email address is hidden (by me) yet the board admin's made it public. Poor form. Perhaps a BCC apology is in order.

To Paul's point, yep. Good board software is the key. I'm a fan of manual verification and approval by the mod's to join, but I'm a militant like that.
Q. What is the fastest way to become a millionare?
A. Be a multi-millionare and buy a minor league sports franchies.

Odd. Recently I've heard folks complain (former Rush fans that are checking out the Slaughter and CIFL) that one does need to be approved to post to the CIFL board.. and it apparently takes 'em a while to do the approving. So if what you say is so, what's the real problem I wonder?
