There are links from the CIFL main site, but this goes right to the schedule.

Eight teams:

East - Fort Wayne, Marion, Wheeling, Huntington (press conference in January)

West - Chicago, Rock River, Milwaukee, Madison

Notable absence - Miami Valley, Kalamazoo (we knew that was coming)
What are you doing here?

OMG, JD lives! Why are you still mad at the Spits? Did they swipe
Huntington from you? Still haggling over lawsuits and money
that's probably not there?

But you're right, holidays first and I look forward to reading
what you're up to in 2009.

Silverbacks gone for good?

This doesn't surprise me at all...Miami Valley decided to take the 2009 season off and refocus their 'energies' to 2010. A couple of years back they were looking at combining their 'energies' (aka $) with another ownership group and possibly bring the AF2 to the Miami Valley Area.

With the AFL taking 'a year off' one has to ask if there is hope for indoor football. Minor league hockey is suffering, the AFL had started to grow so big (including salaries) that they couldn't keep their pants on. If the Silverbacks really do only take this year off I'll be amazed.

Going DARK is a rough thing to come back from. The line in their press release was making it sound like they would NOT be back: "The organization survived longer than the Skyhawks, Warbirds, Bulldogs and Marshals combined."

It wouldn't surprise me if it was written by John Cummings...who used to write releases for the Marshals... I've never really liked his style....

If they are only going to be gone for a season (or at least that is what they were saying earlier in the release) "With the current state of the economy, the management of the Miami Valley Silverbacks announced today they will sit out the 2009 season, but are setting their sites on a return in 2010." why would you say SURVIVED?

I feel sorry for those who were dedicated Silverbacks fans. They used to have a fairly active fan club- the "SILVERBACKERS"

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

I know it comes with the territory but, I just wish that the revolving door in minor league sports would stop turning.
