The Orlando Sharks Pulled out of the 2008/09 season due to conflicts with Orlando City Hall. The two could not come to terms on a agreeable lease contract so as of yesterday Orlando made it clear that they will be inactive for one year. Two players who had signed with Orlando have already been offered deals with Nj and Rockford Rampage. Hewverton and Ricardinho. Stay tune for more insiders information.

The orlando Sharks should make a annoucement on this in the next few days, the Rampage have already removed them from there season playing schedule schedule.
Quoted with all spelling errors intact. Yes, it's a message board post, but it is correct in one respect - the Sharks no longer appear on the season schedule on the Rockford Rampage website.

The Rampage appear on Orlando's schedule as "Chicago".

By way of comparison:

Orlando's website shows three road games against Chicago/Rockford:
December 27
January 25
March 8

Rockford's website shows home games on all three dates:
December 27 vs. Philadelphia
January 25 vs. Baltimore
March 8 vs. Monterrey

Not sure if there's fire... but it seems possible that the Sharks have, indeed, been smoked.

Here was an article in today's Orlando Sentinel. I'm glad they are keeping their staff and will still be involved with the community so it looks like they will be back in 2009.

Orlando's indoor soccer team will skip this season, focus on returning in 2009

Stephen Ruiz | Sentinel Staff Writer
3:47 PM EDT, October 23, 2008

The Orlando Sharks will not play this season in the recently formed National Indoor Soccer League, but team President Rich Bradley said the franchise plans to resume play in the 2009-10 season.

"When you talk about teams that fold, they close the doors and shut off the lights,'' Bradley said Thursday. "That couldn't be further from the truth.''

Bradley said the Sharks still plan to be active in the community and no staff will be cut, but the decision not to play came about because of what Bradley called "a perfect storm of bad timing.'' The move from the Major Indoor Soccer League to the NISL left the Sharks little time to work out suitable scheduling dates with Amway Arena, and along with economic factors, that contributed to the decision, Bradley said.

Bradley said he understands the risk involved in skipping a season on the field so early in a team's development, but to go forward would not have been wise.

"It would have been a lot to bite off in a short amount of time,'' he said.

The Sharks were scheduled to begin their second season Nov. 15 in Baltimore. Their first home game was set for Nov. 28 against Monterrey La Raza at Amway Arena.

Bradley said season-ticket deposits are in the process of being returned.

He said most of the Sharks' players either will be loaned out to other teams or waived.

Just another sign that having three "pro" indoor leagues is not going to work. Someone needs to step in and combine the three leagues into 2 leagues with relegation/promotion between the two leagues.

You merge-happy oligarch, you!

(Oh, wait, I'm supposed to be saving that for the big fat cat investors who cut and run to cause the banking crisis. Never mind me.)
