I heard some facts about operating costs at RAP from sources close to the team. It was an oppressive agreement from the team's POV.
No one can question the Parkers' ability to run a sports team.
I can only assume that they signed the deal, hoping to amend it down the road after a couple of successful seasons.
The inability to renegotiate, along with the fragile condition of the league, probably convinced them that there was no future for the GBL and none for the Seals.
It's been a great two years. Good luck to all baseball fans.
Signing out,
Seal Guy
Seals Lost
Come on, man
Stop the press on the burial of the Seals. This may be considered rumour-control or fantasy but I just have to pass on what I have found out here in Victoria.
Ownership - Mr Parker has moved his family to Victoria, perhaps to enjoy our sunshine or perhaps to run a ball team, your call
Players - Options have been picked up on many Seals, perhaps to start a new team or perhaps to remain in Victoria, your call
City - Without boring people to death our little city is more a bunch of towns, "cities" and municipalities. When the news broke about the Seals folding many of the politicians quickly realized what the team actually meant to this whole area vice just counting butts through the gate. Agencies that benefited from monies gathered through 50/50 draws and charity events, coupled with the local hotel and restaurant associations have lit a fire under our politicians. Our pro hockey team has a cozy deal with the city arena so why not one for the city ballpark? Is this just lots of hot air or will cooler heads meet halfway on issues, your call
League - http://www.ballparkdigest.com still has the best info on what is coming....
Fans - Last but not least the fans are starting a letter-writing campaign to our mayor at http://www.victoria.ca and Mr Parker at http://www.victoriaseals.ca to revisit the situation. I saved the fans for last because as usual we get the smelly end of the stick.
Thanks for listening.....
