2013 Pre-Season League Developments.

Post by BoomerFan » Mon Oct 15, 2012 8:11 pm

Ballpark Digest is reporting for the 2013 season, the FL will have the 13 clubs which finished last year, plus a travel team called the Frontier Greys.

No changes to the divisional alignment, since the Greys will replace last year’s London/Road Warriors team and will be assigned to the Eastern Division. http://ballparkdigest.com/201210155722/ ... s-for-2013

Different schedule scheme for 2013 regular season.

Post by BoomerFan » Tue Oct 16, 2012 7:52 pm

Last year’s schedule had each FL club playing a home and away series (6 games) against 10 opposing teams, with 2 home and 2 away series (or 12 games) against 3 “regional opponents for 96 games.

For 2013, each club will play 6 games against 9 teams; 9 games against 4 opponents and 12 games against 1 team.

Washington has drawn the travel team, “the Greys,” for its 12 game series opponent , which probably makes sense from both a competitive and travel viewpoint, since Washington is one of the more isolated franchises and was one of the less successful teams from last year.

The bonus or 12 game series opponent for the Boomers will be the Joliet Slammers, which should be interesting, since the Joliet Club has new ownership. The 4 opponents Schaumburg will face for 9 games (perhaps in degree of difficulty) are Traverse City, River City, Evansville and Rockford.

why would the railcats not move to the FL? why have only one close team in the AA when you could have 5 (windy city, joliet, schamburg, normal, rockford). not to mention smaller general expenses in the FL.

Indy League Hopping.

In light of the demise of the Northern League, not sure to what extent Indy leagues have begun imposing restrictions on teams switching leagues. It would make sense to require League consent or require an exit fee.

As for multiple team ownership, it must be permitted in the FL, since Normal and River City have at least some partial overlap of ownership and other owners have discussed the possibility.

As a Railcats fan, there is nothing I would like to see better. Move to the FL. Good baseball and good rivalries is what I want. It is difficult to development rivalries with the likes of Laredo and Amarillo.
