I visited the site with the project manager. Impressive! The field will be MLB standards. The only thing that had not been decided yet was the color (what shade of green).

A major omission on my part... the field will be covered by an airdome from october to april so it can be used year round. 230 square feet and 80 feet high. Here's a picture

After 4 games on the new artificial turf, the results are great.

When it rains, only the mound and the batter's box need to be covered.

The bounces are always true although higher than regular turf.

The turf really slows down the ball on grounders which will make for more outs on infield grounders as the defense has more time to get to the ball.

When a player slides on the bases, the momentum carries him almost twice as far as on a dirt infield.

Is the turf the only thing they renovated? That stadium from what I have seen (only in pictures) looks old. Can it use other updating?

It LOOKS old... just as Fenway and Wrigley. Besides being a bit cramped (1930's standards were different) it has that baseball feeling in spades... and the noise... OH! the noise! The games I attended in other parks felt like a visit to a funeral parlor!

The dome is a little small to be useful for much of anything outside of fast-pitch softball or kiddie soccer. I suppose it would need to be around 400 ft. by 300 ft. to be used for football (in Canada) or about 350 by 90 for soccer (and that still doesn't allow much room for benches).

The space under the dome will be used mainly by little league baseball october through april. It should have a huge impact on baseball enrollment among kids. There's enough room for 2 soccer fields (kid's dimensions, of course).

Should do wonders for older players to practice on a real baseball diamond year-round.
