And the 2016 champions will be.....

The Ottawa Champions of course. 3 excellent reasons:
1- The pitching!
2- The pitching!!
3- The pitching!!!

Here's some data for the month of august up to the 26th.

Pitching NJ... Rock.. Ott... Qc
ERA.....4.30...4.18..3.36..5.02 ¿?
OAVG...272....257...252...304
BB.........76.....109....74....92
HB.........13......15......6.....9
WP.........20......15......9....15
Errors... 27......24.....13...24
UER*.....20......21.....11...19

* Unearned runs. Of course, Errors & UER depend on the official scorer's judgement or lack of... especially in New Jersey!

¿? Quebec has brought in 4 new pitchers (2 starters) from the mexican league for the playoffs. Let's wait and see how they perform!

Not pitching

Post by NJ JACKALS FAN » Tue Sep 06, 2016 8:24 pm

Having sat through the entire series that decided the regular season can am league championship, I can assure everyone, it was not pitching, as both teams (Jackals and Boulders) were sorely lacking in this department.

Looking forward to the Boulders Capitales series. Will you be in Pomona for Game 3?

Since the web broadcast of the Boulders games is so good, I have no need to make the trip... so I'll pocket the 500 $ and forgo the 20 hours of driving for what could be just 1 game either way!

About pitching, the upgrades les Capitales made before the deadline look pretty good... a lot of experience and you know what happens when a hitter faces a pitcher for the first time... he has to look for the release point and the brake in the assortement not to mention variations in speed of the pitches. Wouldn't be suprised if it takes at least 2 at bats to get minimaly comfortable in the batter's box.

In monday's game, Eric Gagné was dominant but les Capitales feasted on the Champions bullpen. One prediction you can take to the bank: Luis Munoz won't see any action against the Jackals... except in a blowout! The guy has to be hurt! Have a look at his last 3 outings No control in the first 2 and he got wacked when he put the ball on the plate... Either Walks or Beachballs!!!

That makes perfect sense about saving the money and the time on the long trip. Some Boulders fans I know made a trip up to Quebec earlier this year. If I only had the time and money. It should be an interesting series, and now with the rain postponing yesterday's game let's see how that plays out.....

The first 2 games were great... especially if you're rooting for the winning team... good solid baseball. Les Capitales have been playing better ball so far... more focused on the task at hand.

In game 2:
With the bases loaded, 1 out and the Bloulder trailing by 1 run in the top of the 6th:
Pitching Substitution 23 Adrian Garza subs for Jorge Reyes Pitcher.
#9 Pat McKenna Ball, Ball, Ball, Called Strike, Foul, 9 Pat McKenna putout (strike out swinging) for out number 2
#1 Elvin Soto Ball, Called Strike, Swinging Strike, 1 Elvin Soto putout (strike out swinging) for out number 3

HUGE miscue: Nidiffer's bad toss back to the pitcher in the bottom of the 7th was a whopper as Santos (BB, SH, FC) took off from 3rd and increased the Capitales lead to 2 runs... and changed how the rest of the game was played.

It's just a detail but an important one: the Boulders were without their pitching coach for the first 2 games... couldn't cross the border!

Vindicated!

The name of the game is still pitching!

Congratulations to the true Champions on the field and especially to the owner, Miles Wolff, a true gentleman without whom we would not have had all those great summers on independent baseball.
